Ford admits it

I just saw on the evening news where Ford admits their suv's are big and will cause a lot of damage when involved in an accident with a smaller car. NBC also reported that Ford admits the suv's get worse mileage and emits more pollution than smaller cars. NBC said Ford was saying this to head off lawsuits, similar to tobacco lawsuits and gun lawsuits and to say they are working on correcting this "perceived problem".

Re: Ford admits it

What a shame!

Every day I am more and more amazed at the absurdity of thought we are surrounded by!

Question - if I get run over by someone with a high body mass index (PC for overweight), who gets sued? Is it the farmer that grew the food eaten by the overweight person, the food processing company, the distributor of food products, the grocer, or maybe the advertising company that put ads for the food on the T.V.?? It must have been someone's fault and I will obviously be hurt more than if this person didn't have such a high body mass index!!

Absolute absurdity!

Terry

p.s. was the NBC interview in response to the Consumer Report article?

Re: Ford admits it

tiphlps,

The answer to your question is simple. All of them. It is called "The shotgun approach." You don't want to miss a defendant who, as the case develops is the real tortfeasor. Also don' want to miss the possibility of a deep pocket.

On more realistic note, I was appalled at Ford's recent statements. What a public relations calamity and I suspect a legal blunder as well. Ford has quite possibly exposed themselves as well as all Excursion/Expedition/PSD SD owners to serious lawsuits in cases where our vehicles trash a much smaller vehicle. I think the public was, until now, prepared to accept the mismatch in vehicle sizes as a normal risk of the road. With Ford's "confession" I think that premise can no longer be assumed. Our Excursions/PSD SD's will be treated just like guns, inherently and unreasonable dangerous. Must be true because Ford said so!

Better buy BIG umbrella policies (if insurance companies will take the risk).
