I had a popping noise or suspension creak emanating from the front drivers position any time I had a change in directional torque on the front end. From a rolling idle I could just bounce on and off the brakes. This was the second visit for the problem. Went for a ride with the service manger, all of ten feet bouncing on/off the brakes. Well they finally tracked it down a bolt that holds the cab/body to the front drivers side of the frame. They indicated that the head of the bolt was interfering with the body as it flexes. Sounds strange to me. Just thought I would pass it along. It was driving me crazy.
AXTINC,Your posting is so timely. I have the exact, and i mean exact, same thing happening in my X. Started on Sunday of this week. Will print your post and take it to my dealer to avoid them having it for more time than they need it. How long did it take them to find it? Thanks! Teamh

Teamh,
First visit they spent about a day and said they had no idea what I was talking about. Second time in service manager said "I hear it we will find it". It took them most of the day to find it. Not sure how long it actually took to fix it yet. They are also working for the second time on the Cackle TSB.
Just got of the phone with the service department. Reading from the service report they removed outside body panel gaining access to the chassis bolt, removed the bolt, enlarged the access hole for the bolt and reinstalled. All is well. Turns out that they did this on another Excursion just a few days back but it was not the same technician so they went through the discovery process twice.
ATXINC, invaluable info. Thanks so much. Going to print THIS posting and take it to them. Thanks again.
Now on to the cackle. I definitely have it but am very curious as to how they fix it. I am new to the diesel game, but just hearing it sometimes, gives me the willy's.
My only other problem was one of the rear windows is inop. No biggee.
Thanks again, will share my dealer experience with you when I take the beast in for service.
AXTINC, Which dealership in the Denver area did you take your Excursion to for service on the popping noise and cackle? I seem to have the exact same problems on my new EX...figure I save some time explaining the problem. Thanks in advance
Sorry for the delay, just back from vacation. Pulled the trailer down to Gunnison and on to Lake City and back. The excursion did a wonderful job and the family loved the small amount of extra room over the F250 PSD Super Cab we owned on the last trip. Mike Naughton Ford in Aurora (303) 343-1900, just because I bought it there. It has been a minor pain, but they have been working on it. I have heard better comments regarding Tom Lee at Courtesy Ford. It depends on where you live.
