FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

My 2001 Excursion had only 1081 miles on it, 8 days old. Overheated on my wife in about a two mile strecth, then shut down completely due to overheating. Dealer said a heater hose clamp wasn't on correctly and hose came off. Problem is fixed. My concern is what damage this has caused to such a new motor? Long term, etc? I plan on having my oil anylized. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Re: FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

If it shut down because it seized, I would DEMAND a new truck, or at least a new motor, not a reman. either.

Re: FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

No, it shut down because the sensors detected the overheating and automatically shut it down before it siezed.

Does anyone know at what temperature they shut down?

Re: FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

You should be fine.

There have been some that have shut down due to low oil pressure.
The cure was to install oil plug and the necessary amount of oil and drive off.

With the 100k engine warrenty I would say you will be fine.

It is not like you have aluminum heads.

Re: FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

I did not realize that the Power Stroke had a high temperature shut down feature. Learn something new everyday.

Thanks,

Re: FOUND OVERHEATING PROBLEM

Sandman 36,

Did the temp gauge go up gradually from normal to hot range?
Did an idiot light come on in conjunction or separate?

Wanted to verify that it was a true analog gauge through the whole range. Mine never moves from mid point regardless of the circumstance.

Also glad to note that the engine was protected by shut down.

Thanks
