Found some free springs

Can I directly swap the springs from a F-250 4X4 w/ a 6.0 PSD and crew cab short bed to my 2000 4X4 X with a 7.3 PSD? If yes, how much lift can I expect? Also if I want to add air bags for ocassional heavy towning should I order them for a F-250 or my X? Thanks in advance!!

Re: Found some free springs

Depends on what springs they are. U codes supposedly would be about 1.25"-1.3", V code a little over 1.5" and X code closer to 2" if not a little more.

Only way to know is to check the truck they came off of. Drivers door jamb there is a sticker that has several things on it, one of which says, SPR. Under that you'll see either 2 of 4 char. Like U G or UU GG. First one is the fronts second is the rears. Lot's of PSD SD's get V codes I've found. I thought U code were more common.

Re: Found some free springs

Are you talking front springs only, or front and rear? The front springs are no problem, neither are the rear, but the rear blocks make a world of difference. You CANNOT use blocks from a crew cab on an Excursion. If you use blocks from a truck they must be from a regular cab or they will not have enough rake to them to retain proper driveline angle.

How much lift did you get with your spring swap? That is the set up I originally wanted but someone offered me free 250 springs. The "X" and 350 spring swap is going to run about $800-900. Do I just need to get a standard block from a regular cab F-250, how thick is the F-250 block?

Re: Found some free springs

I got a full 3" inch lift in the front The rear lifted about the same, maybe a little higher. The 250 rear springs could be A code or B code. A codes are 250 only springs with ~6000lb capacity. The B code springs are 250/350 srw springs and have a capacity of 6800lbs. So you could have either A or B code rears. As far as the height of an F250 block, it depends, some came with 2" blocks and some came with 4" blocks.

Sorry, but I am afraid I added to the confusion rather than than helping out.

Re: Found some free springs

I am not sure about needing raked blocks, Edge sells flat blocks 4or5" to go with their lifts. I asked them about the lack of angle and they said that the EX doesn't need em

Re: Found some free springs

They are wrong, the pig has to be turned up to keep the angle correct. I used u codes and a 1.5" add a leaf and got a full 3"s that has not sagged a bit. I used a 4.5" tappered block (chevy ) in the rear and I have airbags also. They were within the service limit and work great...see my sig, it tows the trailers great with no sag at all. The bags don't give a huge amount of lift but I don't want that, just no sag....at all.

Re: Found some free springs

Could you just swap the front springs for the front springs to level it out or do you have to lift the rear when you swap the U/V springs?

U code you should just get it leveled. V code you may need to do something wiht the rear, especially if you load her down or tow as it may put you slightly nose high.

Re: Found some free springs

That is correct. U will level you, V will put the front slightly high, especially when towing.

Re: Found some free springs

Most have gottne the 4" blocks for a Supercab SWB which have a slight wedge. It's the same chasis the Ex. is on. (not CC SWB that most people think, including myself at one point. )

See the posts above. You can't use part numbers. You need the Code only.

Also need "new" u-bolts and nuts. Don't reuse the old ones not matter how new they are.
