Okay, Hellwig rear sway bar is on order, shocks, either Bilstien or Rancho will be ordered this week. The last part of making this beast ride acceptable... what can be done about the 1/2" clearance between the bump stop and springs? The dealer claims "this is in spec". It bottoms out all the time!!! I don't want to raise the front end unless I have no other choice. What can I do? Change the bump stops? If so, to what? Cut them? Or do I have to raise the front?
My F250 has plenty of clearance between the springs and front bump stop. Why would they be different? This is a terrble design!
Thanks for your help!

We swapped out our stock front springs which had less than 1/2" clearance to V codes with at round 2-2.5" clearance now.
The V codes were new takeoffs from a friends 2002 F250.
Spring Cost = FREE
Installation Cost = Case of MGD on Ice

The recommended front fix last year was "U" or "V" codes and 2003 Excursion bump stops (shorter and softer than 2001 OEM). I went with "U"'s and the 2003 stops. It's much better, but what about F250 bump stops? They certainly are not progressive, but should add more than an inch of unfettered bump travel (with a very big crash at the end).
The reason that I suggested the Timbrens is because they rest on the axle, so you are always putting some weight on them. Therefore, there is no bumpstop crash when you hit a big bump. They are also progressive, they start out softer and get stiffer as they are compressed
I bought them for this reason and because my X tows 90% of the time. With a WD hitch, I am throwing a little more weight up to the front springs and I wanted a little more load capacity. The Timbrens are rated for an additional 3000 lbs.
The Timbrens will stiffen the front a little for the first 1/2" of travel because you are pushing on a rubber spring rather than air.
If you want more clearance, you need to go to U or V springs. They won't give you much extra load capacity, raise your front end and are stiffer than stock D codes, but are probably softer than the Timbrens.
Cutting one ring off will give more travel but a more abrupt stop on that hard urethane bumper they used to about mid/late 2002
New cone type stops are about $12.00 ea. from Ford with a little discount.
Very easy install also.
If I had not spent $100.00 on shorter timbrens for stops I would have them.
Next step is springs if you use the truck every day, I have over 75K on my V codes and still say Us with the new cone stops would have been even better.
Timbren's are not the answer for a daily driver in my opinion, they will make the ride just to harsh on bumps when empty and not towing.

I just picked up two new front spring bumper stops from Ford. The parts guy said they were for a 2003 F-250 4x4.
1C3Z-3020-AA BUMPER
They have ONE BOLT HOLE and they are about 1 7/8" overall height about 2 1/2" long & 2 5/8" wide. Basically a rectangular block, with a slanted surface that faces down towards the spring axle mounting block.
From some posts on this web site, I was expecting a 2 bolt style that would bolt right on to my 2000 X 4x4 frame above the front axle.
Did the parts guy give me the wrong part?
Did I order the wrong part?
What is the correct part for improving travel?
Thanks. Dave

I have U-code front springs and 2003 stops on a 2001 PSD.
I have two of the above to try, but haven't gotten around to putting them on. Come to think of it, are they handed? Anybody know if you use the same part number on both sides?
I installed "U" codes a few monthes ago and are noticably better than stock "D" codes. I now have a full 2" of clearance and have not noticed any contact between bump stops and axel . Install will require a couple friends to help you. I have 1 pic below showing clearance .
Sorry to ask ya'll to backtrack a little, but would you mind explaining how these different U OR v or D springs change the ride. Yes, my X bottoms out prtty easy also but I don't care for the ride all that much. Seems like it's to stiff for my taste. Would love to smooth it out so I'm not always bouncing down the HWY.
Tons of documentation on this just look back a little or look under my name and do a search going way back to the end of 2001.
There are charts on all the spings
I reposted a bunch of links to this just a few weeks ago.
If you have 2000 and it is unmodified then I would "guess" that you have the old ribbed hard A$$ stops and you have about 1/2 to 5/8 clearance between these on the top of the spring pad. This is why the ride is harsh, it's not the spings, it's the hard stops
Go take a look and let us know, we can help
Did you buy this used????
How many miles???
