Thanks Bruce 1954 -

I did buy this truck used about 6 months ago and it has 57000 miles on it now. You are right on the money cause I went out and took a look and there are ribbed stops with approx 5/8" between it and the plate that comes up to hit it. It's perfect except for the ride. I appreciate your help.

Ok you have a perfectly "normal" X

Now just add springs U V W or X

Shocks if they have not been replaced

and a rear sway bar Ford or Helwig

Lots of info here on results and who used what springs for what

If you post your usage you will get more specific recomendations

Re: Thanks Bruce 1954 -

I'm mostly on the highway between Texas and OKlahoma doing about 75 - 80 mph twice a week. Once you get into OK., the highways are really lumpy so the current ride stinks and the only time I'm in 4 wheel drive is when the ranch is muddy. So is there any way to make it ride like a Caddy !?

Sure spend lots of $$$$$$ . Anything can be made to ride smooth, my 76 Bronco has 24" of travel $1K Bilsteins, custom springs, custom radius arms ect. It can walk thu the Rubicon with ease or run 70 mph all day as nice as a caddy, except for the noise . Call Denver spring and Donahoe and tell them what you want it to do.

Houndog,Always plenty of room for improvement! Springs and Shocks I'd start with immediately

You're right here in neighboring Plano lemme know if you wanna go for a drive in our Excursion to experience the difference in ride/handling.

Al least you'll have a baseline for what to expect

No not within reason in my opinion however our other car is a Town Car and for a long trip (200 to 750 miles) we take the X every time.

I have 91K on my 02 so we do put the miles on.

I was terrible to drive when new frankly I don't see how any one could drive one of these thing more than a few thousand miles without A. Selling it or B. Fixing it.

I knew it was not right prior to ordering mine so no surprises for me thanks to this site. Only problem was we did not know how to fix them near as well as we do today.

I was one of the first to use V codes and the first as far as I know to document the results.

Since then many have used T thru X codes to get the desired results.

You said Highway and no towing or extra loads so this says U code

Then you said Mud and Ranch so Vs might be in order also

Go get some 03 and up stops today they will help some.

Because you have an older one and it is sagged some expect the following

U codes at least 1 1/4 inch to 1 1/2 higher and Vs a 1/4" more

As I recall the 03 stops add another 1/2 inch so you can go from your current 1/2"+ to 2 1/2 or so and it makes a huge difference

If you pm me your email I have an excel sheet that makes this all very clear

Bruce

Re: Front Bump Stop

Went to Ford today and used the part number you suggested. The bump stop they tried to give me was square with a single bolt hole in the middle. The stock 2002 ones currently on my X are shaped like a stack of doughnuts and have a bolt on each side to attach it to the frame. Are the 2003 ones supposed to be like this or is the part number you posted possibly incorrect?

Sorry, I'm a rookie.

Thanks!!

Re: Front Bump Stop

The 2003 Excursion bumpstop is the same as the two-hole 2002 stop except the "stack of donuts" is replaced with a black volcano-shaped thing that is softer, shorter. Do this mod right away, because it's cheap and a 20 minute job and it will stop that bottoming out effect. Just lie to the parts guy and tell him you have a 2003 Excursion and you want to replace the front bumpstops.

Re: Front Bump Stop

Still working on the bump stops, the Ford parts guy did not know the terminology "bump stop". We tried the part numer f81z-3020-da that DOC444 listed on this thread, and it appeared to be wrong. Ford had the part in stock and sure enough it was square and had a single bolt hole in the middle. Does anyone, who did this mod, have their invoice handy and can check to see what the part number is??

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Front Bump Stop

Thanks CHPMustang!!!

I went to Ford and yes that is the correct number, I order it today!! I looked at Pastuki's post that started this thread and he has a f250 not an Excursion. He posted in the wrong forum, this is for Power Stroke Excursions. My fault for assuming!!

Thanks again!!

Re: Front Bump Stop

No Problemo Mike

Long as the parts guy confirmed by the fiche/computer image or pulling it out of the box/package you should be good!

Some nip off a ring or two of the stock bumps, some spend the what $20 a piece and bolt the new ones on.
