Last night my front passenger dome light burned out. No problem. Went to Wally World, 2 bucks, done. Not... Bulb won't come out of black plastic ring holder thingy. Upon review with flashlight the bulb melted the housing and I can't get the bulb out. Broke the bulb to get it out and went to local Furd dealer. "Yea, gimme $544, you can't buy just that black ring".. C'mon someone tell me I'm just having a nightmare!!! Has this happen to anyone and where can I get this part, short of renting a X for the weekend!!? Jeez. That's insane. I bet you could have a machinist make you one cheaper. Maybe you can check a local pick-a-part or some other junkyard and get lucky.
I say a test drive is in order I bet they replace it under warranty on the new truck and no one is the wiser.

My navigator will use the ole flashlight on this trip but when I get back I'll be in search of a "Bogey". Don't sleep to deep jschira!!!
I had something similar happen on my previous truck. It was a '94 F-150, and the third break light melted the housing so it could not be removed. After i pried it out I just rimmed the melted area out, and put a new bulb in and just left it to melt the rest next time. Where does ford find this "heat resistant plastic" they use?
