Front end lift question

I've read many of the post and seen pics of Exc's with "X" springs. First, being new I don't know what "X" springs are. I take it as being a beffy set of springs to add height to accomodate rim/tire changes. However, my question is, is it possible to raise the front end on an 02 4x4 w/PSD just a little more to offset the "front dip look"? I don't plan on changing from stock rims, tires, etc, nor do I want to raise the overall heigth of the truck any higher than it is. I was thinking along the lines of adding a leaf to the stock setup (without adding blocks in the rear) just to level or nearly level the front with the back. Is there another solution I'm not thinking of? Stock fender well clearance in rear is right at 9" while the front is right at 7". I also plan on going with a set of Rancho 9000's all the way around at some point. You'll have to pardon my ignorance in this arena as a newbie. Thanks in advance gang!

Re: Front end lift question

Maybe not a lot of help, but here it goes.

Yes, you can lift the front to offset the droop. Call a spring shop in your area and they can help or give you suggestions on how to do it.

I've done it on other types of vehicles, but not the X. I also have a 2WD so I'm not really sure how the front end is set-up on the 4X4 X.

If it's springs are the Spring under set-up? In which case I think you will need to just add a taller shackle, but make sure it's beefy enough to handle all the front end weight.

If it a spring over set-up, then you can add a helper leef to get the correct height.

Hope this helps.

Re: Front end lift question

Rob:

Thanks for the info. I spoke to a friend of mine who did this to his F250. He had to admit, it did stiffen the ride in the front. With my boat hooked to the back, it dropped the rear end 1/2". With a load in the cargo area, it would probably drop at least another 1/2" or so. That would only leave 1/2" difference b/w the front and back when loaded and towing. That's better than the front being up higher than the rear in my opinion. I also talked the local 4WD shop who said the last one they did ended up sitting just a tad higher in the front than the rear and the guy was pissed when he towed cause the front end was up in the air. I'll probably leave it alone. Thanks again for your info.
