Front end shake

I'm new to forum, new to diesel and new to Excursion. Bought a '02 limited 7.3 last month w/135K on it. Love it. Find I need some advise. Over 45 MPH when I apply the brakes front end shakes like it's going to fall off. Is it the roters/pads or ????
Thanks for the help

Re: Front end shake

you will find numberous posts on brakes/front end issues here. Brakes are usually the first culprit. new rotors pad and grease/replace slide pins are the most common. I just replaced the above but also had left front wheel bearing and caliper seized.

Re: Front end shake

Sounds like rotors, any wiggle in the steering wheel at lower speeds? It May not be however with that many miles check wheel bearings as well, front end in general.

Do you have any history on the truck?

Lots of info here on rotors that work
most but not all agree for moderate to heavy use cyro treated rotors such as ART and a limited few others work well
See my Sig.

Re: Front end shake

Thank you for input. Don't have history on truck. Think I'm 3rd owner. Stock truck. Based on condition of interior looks like it's had tlc but not sure about maint. of other stuff. Found great article w/pictues at supermotors on brake/rotor replacement. I'll check wheel bearings when I jack it up. Reason I thought it's brakes rotors, looked under front end and all looks big enough to last 500K. Might be wishful thinking.

Re: Front end shake

My rotors warped in the first 10,000 miles. I put on a set of the frozen rotors and not a problem since.

Re: Front end shake

Congrats on buying an X! They can have some front end issues though. Get the front end checked by someone who knows trucks. Not the kid/wanna-be at the tire store. Mine were said to be fine and 5k miles later I learned that lesson through my wallet.

The ball joints are due if yours have not been done. Mine was ball joints and a bearing pack. The inner seal was bad and ruined the bearings (they come as a unit that includes the ABS sensors). It can get costly if you let it go.

Get it checked out and fixed now so you can enjoy the truck.
