I have the front receiver made by Hidden Hitch. A piece of cake to install except for removal of the front bumper. Not that the bumper is hard to remove, but be careful because the bumper tends to tilt up and scratch the fender. Do not ask me how I know. Two people on the bumper and you will be okay. If you have the factory fog lights, I hear that they will have to be removed or the lights shimmed out to clear. If you have the front licence bracket, it has to come off.
Hope this helps,

Yeah what he said, BUT dont forget "2" people needed to keep from scratching the truck( not that I would know). Hidden Hitch was 99 bucks plus shipping from I think justhitches.com front hitch picture

What is the front receiver hitch for? Probably a silly question but I was just wondering. I have seen them used for tow hooks, spare tire mounts and winch mounts but the X already has tow hooks and the spare is inside and who goes wheeling where they will need a winch with an X. Bicycle rack maybe .
Sounds like a good place to carry your generator and extra fuel. just be sure to remember it is there since you probably wont be able to see it from the drivers seat. could get kinda noisy if you pull up too close behind someone.
If someone uses a front receiver to back there trailer up they should probably practice backing up a little more. I have saw people pulling trailers that cannot back them up three feet and when they get in a tight spot they are in big trouble. I think that there should be an endorsement required on drivers licenses for pulling trailers and to get it you should be able to back up around a corner. CDL holders have to get endorsements for doubles, air brakes, haz-mat, tankers, ext... So why shouldn't everyone else need to be qualified because we all know that many trailer pullers are far from qualified. I am sure that many of you have spent way too much time at the boat ramp waiting for an unqualified driver to unsuccessfully back his boat into the water.
I use it for carrying bikes when I am towing and spotting trailers in real tight spots. I have a CDL license for driving almost anything on the road. Backing up is not a problem for me but getting in really tight spots, pushing is easier to do and is easier on the vehicle.
The fog lights I have been told can be saved. You will need to add spacers to the mounting of the fog lights.
I will gone for a week or so. I am going on a family trip. Details latter. Have a great week.

I do not have the factory fog lights installed. They were not a factory option in 2000. I might add them later. I read this information on the spacers on older posts.

I have one on my truck but not on the X. It is great for parking the boat next to the house. I can back a trailer just about anywhere but pushing it is a lot easier. Texas requires the front license plate so I made a license plate mount to put in the front reciever. It works great and keep the fuzz happy.
I buried my X once in a pasture. I wasn't 4-wheeling at all, just sunk in where the grass had grown over some loose dirt that had been pushed up by a dozer. I would have LOVED a front mount winch at that time.

Those multi mounts would be great for the front and rear. The only problem with the Excursion is where to put when it is not being used.
