front seat replacement

Well we just found out we are having twins. The normal person may have all of the regular fears of hearing the news, I guess I am not a regular person. My first thought was of my X. You see we already have 5 other kids, so the X was to be the perfect family hauler. Now there will be 9 of us and I only have 8 seats. The next step is one of those big 12 passenger vans and lets face it they are not cool. So I go to the dealer to order a bench seat for the front. The parts man says that a "kit" doesn't exist so he has to order everything seperate. Everything! The list came to 110 part numbers and had a price of $3,000. So I would get a Ford 40-20-40 leather front seat. I then have to assemble and install for $3,000. I have found after market products for about half that, but they come with some kind of frame adapter for my vehicle. It seems all the aftermarket seats are boilerplated, then I have to bolt it to the adapter then bolt the adapter to the floor. It just doesn't sound solid or safe. Does anyone have other ideas or suggestions?(Other than the obvious birth control needs)

Re: front seat replacement

Maybe you can get someone on this board to trade captains for bench. Give it a try.
Congrats

Re: front seat replacement

krdadlamb - Congratulations on the new additions. A small school bus might also work to trasnsport those kids. (Just kidding). Good luck in search for your seat. A thought - try a F250/350 front bench seat or try to find a Excursion Fleet model with a bench style seat. You could always have it recovered. A junk yard search might be a good starting place

Re: front seat replacement

Congrats on the twins....

Hey arn't we missing the obvious. There are plenty of threads on converting from bench to buckets by only replacing the center section. It should be possible to go backwards.

Re: front seat replacement

Congrats on the twins.

As far as the seat try junk yards, there are very few Xs with bench seats, and all of them were cloth, but they can be recovered

Also remember no child under 13 should be in the front seat with a air bag

Good luck,

krdadlamg
Congratulations ! ! ! on the 2Xs .

If you do not find what you are looking for in the previous posts the only other placec I can think of are places that sell caps for pickups. A lot of them sell aftermarket seets and do installations. All of the mounting hardware has to meet DOT regulations. The last resort I guess would be in the
================================================== ==== www.jcwhitney.com catalogue.

They sell similar products.

Take care and good luck.

Re: front seat replacement

Reno about a year back down in the OTHER section of the forum it got the nick name of the bilges. Well we got to having some fun and a bunch of us started calling ourselves BILGE RATS. It got out of hand and Jason shut it down. It was our fault so no complaints on this end. When we got shutdown we had 12 topics going at the same time . any way right after that the uh er hum the pigs sstarted laying down in the slop of the bilges. Soooooo that is where that came from. A good many of us left it in our signatures . We just be a fun loving bunch, but are serious on serious subjects.
In relation to a ship the bilges or doubble bottoms are at the bottom and that is where the OTHER section is, so that is why when we were up topside we would say we were going dowm to the bilges on the GOOD SHIP FORD-DIESEL and Aye Jason bees our captn' Mate

Take care bro.,

Re: front seat replacement

krdadlamb,
I removed my center console and installed the center section of the 40/20/40 from a pickup in my 2001 EX.
The dealer I bought my truck from ordered the parts for me and it came to ~$900. There are a few minor problems with the install but overall I am real happy with it. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Dave

Re: front seat replacement

Another tip would be to look for a crashed Super Duty pickup and get the bench seat out of there. It should bolt right in because the X body is the same from the doors forward.

If you really want leather, despite all those kids, you could have the SD bench recovered in leather at any good upholstery shop. I can recommend Kings in Oakland CA but that probably won't help you much.

Let's hear it for the breeding LAMBS!

Baaaah!!!
