Fuel Filler Size
During our two week trip to the Carolinas I stopped at four large truck stops which did not have small diesel nozzles! I would park the rig (truck and 30' trailer) on the fringe and inspect each pump so that I'd know which side to approach from...ha...that wouldn't be a problem as it turned out. The exception were the Flying J's. They had adequate small nozzle pumps in the "RV" area so that one could both fill up and not intrude on the "big truckers" area. I must get the filler hole enlarged as soon as possible.
Now for the good news. The truck exceeded my expectations. It pulled every mountain in the Smokys without a hitch. The one I wish I could have tried, but opted to forego it, it the one found on Rt19 between Cherokee and Ashville, NC. The KOA camper guide shows the road as quite windy - similar to a series of WWWW's - and it also is quite steep. I pulled it 8 years ago with a Suburban 350 gasser and 22' trailer, and had to pull over to side three times going up because of overheating and on the way down, even in 1st gear, there was obvious strain on the brakes. Wife just wouldn't concede to try it again...so if any of you braver lads do attempt it, let the rest of know how you made out.
