fuel gauge & overhead comp issues - Diesel Forum

Recently my fuel gauge has crapped out. It likes to sit right at 1/2 tank. Sometimes after I fill up it will jump up, but the next time I drive it its back to a half tank. Since that started, my overhead comp has been TOTALLY whacky. Sometimes it will say I have 800 miles to go. The next drive it will say 100 some odd miles to go. And the next it will be 4something. WTH?

Anybody have an idea where to start with this?

Can't speak for the overhead console because, per this site, it's not always accurate but I had a similar problem with my fuel gauge. It started off intermittent and got worse within a year or two. I finally went to Ford and it turned out to be the fuel sensor unit. We purchased the extended warranty so it was completely covered; otherwise, it would have cost us close to $1000.00.
