Fuel Injector Failure
I came of the tool road Sat. after a 100 mile trip at about 70 mph.
At the bottom of the exit ramp I lost a cylinder while idleing at the light.
This thing did not sputter or miss then gradually get worse. It sputtered a second then flat gave up the ghost and died.
Fortunately I was only a mile from home.
The code was P0262 which is supposed to be #1 fuel injector high.
Took it in to Ford and they replaced #1 and #5 injectors. Just over $1000.00 fortunately under the powertrain warranty which was $100.00 deductible.
They did a lot of tests, even on the fuel.
They said #5 usually goes out so since I was in to replace #1 they replaced it just for caution.
I was also blessed my extended warranty paid all the deductible so my cost was $0.00.
My question, , , s
How often are injectors going out these days. Am I doomed to several trips a year to the dealer with just 43k miles?
Is there anything that may preserve the injectors short of soaking them in warm kerosene baths every Saturday night?
Thanks for any info.
