What kind of fuel mileage is everyone experiencing out there in their Excursions?

16-18 on surface streets,on the freeway at 65-70 MPH we get 20-21 and change with light to moderate headwinds. Those are non towing numbers.

Re: fuel mileage

Just filled my tank for the first time and got 14.7 MPG.
1/4 tank towing about 8K (82 3/4 ton Suburban 4x4 on my 18ft wood floor car trailer)
1/2 tank highway (75+ with no trailer)
1/4 in town driving

The overhead 'guestimator' said it was 15.1 but it was 591.1 miles on 40.3 gallons.

I'm hoping the tank and prepump mods help get it up into the 18 MPG range.

Later,
Joe H

Re: fuel mileage

Before joining your site, I order a Diablo chip to replace my Superchip. I just installed it to give it a try and my overhead console jumped from 18 mpg to 24 mpg. Can I expect the same improvement from a DI chip? Anyone?

Re: fuel mileage

Just returned from our first towing experience with the new X. 6K down to Albuquerque and return, we averaged 16.7 mpg for the 2375 mile round trip. The new 6.0 & torqshift performed flawlessly. Outside air temps. ranged from the low 40s to the mid 70s, light winds with no adverse weather. The X now has 4000 miles on it with not one problem to discuss. This vehicle loves the thin air and long climbs. Fuel costs varied from $1.49 to $1.79.

I would question that average fuel mileage. From previous post by members, the chips really skew the overhead miles per gallon average. Run some numbers the old fashioned way and see what you get.

Hope this helps,

Mine is consistently between .5 and 1.2 mpg "high" vs the hand calculated numbers. I'm pretty happy with that. I just subtract and know about where I'm at. I turned 17.8 yesterday on a 300 mile roundtrip at 70mph. (on winter blend! )

Regards,
Dave

Re: fuel mileage

Just finished my 1st tank. 14 mpg. That included just about everything that you can imagine. Freeway. City. Towing a 4000 lbs. trailer. Jockeying the trailer around in my yard. Idling to check tranny fluid. Short hops around the neighborhood just to warm it up and try out the new stuff that I put on.

Re: fuel mileage

To make you PSD guys feel even better, I get 11 in town and 13 highway. Towing will no doubt be much worse. I filled up today for $1.54/gal.

I hope the new 6.0 PSD is a good one. I would love to have a 2004 Excursion with it.

Re: fuel mileage

I'd be much happier if the prices were to head back to the 1.10's to 1.20's

Time to fill today for tomorrow maybe be another .10 cents more!! and then some

Re: fuel mileage

I hear ya on the price of fuel. Dropped $75 at the pump last week. $1.699 per gallon. Still like the truck though.

You should check your mileage the old fashioned way a chip will often give incorrect mileage readings from the display. You should see a slight increase in mileage with most chips especially if combined with exhaust and intake changes.
