I have about 6,500 miles on my new truck. The computer says I am getting 14.4 MPG. That has not changed in three months. I have towed a 9,000 lbs boat and driven her without towing, highway and city. This thing has not move since the first month. Has anyone else had this problem and what should I do? Also, I would like to know what kind of mileage are people getting? Thanks.

If you are not hand calculating your mileage you do not know what the mileage is. The overhead display, I have been told, averages up to the last 500 miles. I have not seen one that was accurate. Mine on the 03 X is off by as much as 2 MPG at times.

Are you resetting the overhead display each time you fill up?

I have done neither. I will try resetting the computer and keeping track by hand. What kind of mileage are you guys getting? I have heard of high teens and low twenties.

A few days ago I finished a 677 mile trip (50% level highway, 50% mountains)and used 33.3 gallons. This works out to 20.31 MPG. I was just keeping up with traffic and not trying to conserve fuel. I have no confidence in the overhead computer so I seldom even check it. However, the one time I did check it said 19.7 MGP so perhaps it's more accurate than I give it credit for. Around town I average between 15 and 17 with a lot of stop and go driving. Wish it was better but overall I'm very happy considering the X is so heavy.
Just be patient, it will be 10,000 before you hit 16ish and at 20,000 you will hit 17...in town. Reset the overhead while at 70mph and you will see 19.1.I just did. You need to be at or under 2000rpm to get the best mpg (about 70). I felt the same way until I hit 20k then it really shot up.

My wife (Paige) Has about 15,000 on her's and it is getting about 14 doing all her running in town and about 16.5 17 on 70 mph hwy runs.
It is getting better as milage rolls on.

With my 2000 Excursion it once showed 25.7 mpg when I was going a steady 55 mph. I just put 40.6 gallons in today for $55 @$1.359 a gallon. That is about 30 cents cheaper than gas here in central NJ.
Jogiba:
How do you hold 55 with the new 6.0 and the new transmission. I have a hard time doing that on my three mile trip to work every day. No wonder I am only getting 14.5 or so.
Next week I get to go see the mother of my grandchildren about 300 miles away and will get a chance to see what it will really do over the road.
Have fun.

I'm pretty sure the computer gives you an average since it was last reset. As your mileage increases it becomes harder to move the average. When I first got my truck it was not unusal to pick up (or lose) 0.5 mpg on a fillup, then the swings were a bit less, now it rarely moves. If it was only a 500 mile average a weekend in the city would pull it down quite a bit, and then the next highway trip would push it back up again...

That 500 mile thing may have come from a post I made awhile back when this was being discussed. My Lincoln uses the last 500 miles (per owners manual). But I still cant understand why you would want to reset every tank full, you would get wild swings depending on how you drive that tank. I just realized something, you should always get more than 500 miles on a tank with the X . Maybe is uses a longer period, my Lincoln states it in the owners manual. Maybe someone with an X manual could read it and it may say
I have 88K + and have logged every gallon of fuel. I have averaged 15 MPG and that includes every thing. Towing, Idling, and lots of freeway miles at 80+
