Fuel Mileage and brake controller

I just completed a 150 mile round trip with my X. I averaged 16.4mpg at speeds of 65-67mph. I just have to say boy am I satisfied with this truck. I can hardly wait to tow my 8600 pound RV trailer. Also, I just purchased a Tekonsha Prodigy from all the threads it seems that this controller is top of teh line. Has anyone put one of these brake controllers into the small storage hole in the dash of an X? If so please let me know where you cut to pass teh wires through to teh factory plug and how did you mount the controller in place?

Re: Fuel Mileage and brake controller

Well.. I don't have an X, I have an F-250, I think the cubby hole is the same. I didn't want to hack up my dash, so a removable solution was the only way for me to go. I have my Prodigy in the cubby... I run the wires out of the dash, under the steering column and then into the Prodigy... I keep the Prodigy in the plastic holster, on the outside of the holster, I put some thin foam tape... I then push the unit into the cubby until it's snug... it sticks out enough so that I can hit the brake lever if needed and it's not being interfered with.

It's worked for me for the last few months.

Re: Fuel Mileage and brake controller

I installed the Prodigy in the cubby in my 2000 PSD Excursion. I removed the panel under the steering collum to access the wires. I drilled a hole approx. 1'2 diameter in the back of the cubby insert and routed the wires out the prodigy, through the drilled hole. This way I can pull the Prodigy/harness assembly out to disconect it. Mike C.

Re: Fuel Mileage and brake controller

I finally installed my prodigy brake controller. I put it into the cubby hole. It was easy to install took about 1/2 hour. I drilled a 1/2 inch hole in the back of the cubby hole for the wires. I then used the plastic mounting bracket that came with the podigy with 2 screws. Piece of cake. The only snag was the colors on the factory plug and the prodigy harness don't match. The blue and white are the same but the black on the podigy goes to the red on the factory plug. The red wire on the prodigy goes to the green on the factoy harness. Otherwise, I can not wait til next weekend to try the unit out. Oh one other thing the prodigy comes with a mini disk which explains how to set he unit. This was a pretty good idea from Tekonsha. Also, I made the wire lead long enough that I can remove the controller and store it in its neat little bag that came with it. I will be back to this thread as soon as I experience the prodigy advantage.

Re: Fuel Mileage and brake controller

Just finished using the X with teh Podigy brake controller. It is the best . Easy to adjust and you don't even know it is working until you stop. It does a great job. Where was this thing 5 years ago
