Angry Fuel Pump Issue - Service Engine Code is P0231

I took my 2001 Excursion 7.3l 4x4 to AutoZone and they gave me the code of P0231. It says that it is a fuel pump condition. It states that the probable causes are 1) fuel pump relay defective (bought new relay plug from Ford and it didn't fix it), 2) Check fuse (couldn't find any fuse that says anything specific about fuel pump, 3) Check connector and wiring to relay.

Does anyone know anything about a fuse that I need to check that I might have missed?

The relay plug that I replaced was under the hood. Could there be multiple relays? I only replaced the one that said fuel pump.

Can anyone elaborate on #3 or provide any suggestions?

Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, what did you have to do to correct the problem?

Any information on this problem would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would ask for this to be moved to the 7.3L section. If you issues are specific to the X then I would submit here but otherwise you will get quicker answers in the other sections.

Fuel Pump Problem Solved

We tried the cut off switch that is located on the passenger side near the kick plate (you don't have to take anything off because there is a hole and you just push the button to reset the switch). We pushed the reset button and it clicked and reset the fuel pump. The owner's manual said it there was an big impact that it would trip this switch and cause the engine to turn over but not start. Our engine would start but was missing pretty bad and had no pickup power. Once we reset the cut off switch by following the instructions in the owners manaual it ran fine. We took it to get the service engine soon light reset and it didn't come back on. It is running just fine now. So the impact from the wreck seems to have tripped the cut off switch but not all the way so that the engine wouldn't start.

Thanks for everyone who responded.
