Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
2003 Ex 7.3 - Mom's ride
Dad is trying to figure out what should go where. I am a few states away trying to help.
He has the cb and apcm mounted in a waffle grid on the tranny hump so that space it gone and has the Prodigy in the cubby hole.
We need room for chip switch and 5 rocker switches (hd flasher, tail flasher, fog lights, air comp, backup lights). And TTM if he puts that on a kill switch. Problem being it is climate controlled so the right leg of steering column doesn't offer switch space.
He is thinking of Pyro, boost, and tranny in the overhead the rearview mirror mount or pillar mount. The air pressure gauge is probably going beside the cb/apcm on a waffle grid mount he got from Galls.
Where did you tuck all your stuff away?

Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
I will be needing to add a few to my new X
I was looking at the strip below the Head light switch above the CJB cover.
Anyone know if this is a separate piece or part of the dash?
If this 1.5 by 8" strip (guessing on Dims here) could be removed and switches fit to it it would be great. I was thinking those OEM style rockers available at most auto stores, they come with and w/o pilot lights and so on.
If you messed up or wanted a piece without openings you could order one.
On second thought order one so you have it then modify new or old one since the newest dash you can have is an 04.
They would be out of the way and not noticable for the most part.
Just a thought
Bruce

Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
OK looked at it last night and the Manual again today
it does not look like that is a separate part only the side pannel above it with the little air/side window defrost slots in it come off to access the left side dash assembly bolts.
However I have not removed the above and the CJB cover to check.
Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
I have 4 rocker switches to the immediate right of the steering wheel on the bulged out area just above the under-dash access panel.
I'm moving my brake controller to the front of the center console because when mounted in the dash, it is too far away in an emergency to clamp on just the trailer brakes ...Speaking from expensive experience. The best place for the brake is the indent just to the right of the wheel, I can reach it, yea it is a little awkward but it is doable, you just have to be ready and I am 6.1 and have long arms. I have a light switch to the left but it is surface mounted. No others yet.

Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
I'm going to be inspecting my dash carefully this morning, in prep for installing the switches. this means I will be taking off the fuse panel, ashtray/cupholders, and anything else that I can remove that takes less than 10 screws.
If you want me to look at something for you, let me know. I'm hoping that I can get the cluster off easily.

Yes, take a look see and report back exactly where those 4 user servicable wires are that terminate rignt over the engine fuse box. Also if you can, find out where that overdrive wire is that I keep inadevertantly turninig off on the shifter. I want to delete it and put in on a rocker on that lower dash bump Steve talked about. I have this cute little carbon fiber knob (matches my interior trim package) that will replace that plastic piece a doodoo (replaced twice) that keeps coming off the end of the shifter.
Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
clamgulch, sent you an email with picture of my problem. Anyone else want to see it let me know.
Again, I have climate control so there is stuff in the way on the right side of wheel that other models may not have.
I suggested to remove that cupholder tray and have someone make an aluminum or stainless piece to fit there and then mount switches in it. Dad said, No, he wants the cupholder tray to stay for now. I also want it gone since my cb and my apcm are underneath that cupholder and if something spills...
Re: Gadget space and location... Brake controller, Chip, switches, Gauge location
Crud...
I was a hoping it would work. The o5 superduty das is different from the Excursion dash. The maker is sending me the measurements of the unit to see if the dash can be drill/modified to fit.
It sucks to get all excited and then find out you're wrong...
