Gauges

Has anyone put the Pyro, Turbo Boost & Tranny Temp gauges in there Excursion yet? I was considering doing that. There are a lot of people who do this to there F350's & 250's. I think it looks pretty cool...but yet functonal. My thoughts are two fold here. I will be towing a 30' Scarb to and from the water. I wanted to observe all the temp's and boost preasures before chipping and then again after I chip it. I need the standard stuff. Where & how to do all this. Thanks for the help

Re: Gauges

Look over the other threads on this site.

Don't chip without at least a pyro gauge. $300 of installed gauges will protect $35k of truck. There are still idiots over on the other threads who chip without gauges and they are playing with fire.

Re: Gauges

How difficult is it to install your own gauges? Considering I'm really a rookie when it comes to working on my truck, I think I should have someone else install them for me. What do you think?

Re: Gauges

I've installed a pyro and a boost gauge on an A-Pillar mount in my Excursion. Wasn't too bad. Biggest problem is getting through the firewall with the gauge leads. Took me a while to find it but there IS a plastic firewall plug located above the computer that you can drill through for the leads. You can't see it from the engine compartment because the soundproofing blanket that covers the entire firewall.

Took me about 6 hours to complete the whole installation.

Re: Gauges

I've read where Super Duty Pickups have 4 wires through the firewall that are used for add on accessories. Do these exist in Excursions? Seems this would make gauge installs easier (if they are reasonably accessible).

Re: Gauges

Yes. There are four spare lead wires you can use to get through the firewall. However, these won't help you with the boost gauge which needs a small plastic tube to pass air pressure through. This you will have to drill and pass through the firewall.

Also, the EGT gauges come with very nice lead wires with ends already one them that work nice. You would have to cut and splice twice per wire to use the four wires that are already in the vehicle.

FYI

Re: Gauges

I posted a week or two ago about my guage install with a TTM and the APCM. I didn't do the install myself, but I did help out with the install. E-mail me if you have any questions. I will tell you that it is a pain in the butt, but well worth the effort.

Regards,
Ben
