The Excursion is getting a mind of her own, only wanting to start when plugged in. New batteries and such lead me to believe it's her glow plug relay that has gone bad. When plugged in it fires right over instantly with remote start. When not plugged in and under 30 it wants to pop over but won't.
At any rate a call to a Ford dealership confirmed my worse fears, the relay is different on the Excursions than the Super Duty's and the glow plug relay is part of a "computer" which sells for $280. It's back by the top of the motor. The F250 and F350 have two relays on the top of the motor side by side, one is the manifold heater relay and the other is the gpr, the Excursion only has the manifold heater relay on top of the motor.
Is there a way to test this "computer" before I dish out $280 for it?
Anybody else replace this part?

2000 Ex could either be the aluminum looking block or a regular cheap relay. Both are in the valley on the pass VC. My 02 has the newer module and I just replaced it because of a code. If yours has the module check for GP codes.
All years have a bigger relay for the AIH.
