Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

I am looking at a 2000 Limited Edition Excursion (white on tan). It is two wheel drive and has the back up sensors, running boards, a dvd system with two T.V.'s mounted in back of the front captains chairs, and a small amp for the stereo. It has the powerstroke engine with 117,350 miles. Is this a good deal at $18,500.00?

Thanks...

Well, I paid 26K for my 01 with 49K on her. Personally I'd keep looking, and get one with less miles on it, even if it costs you a few grand more.

I'd have to second the recommendation to check edmunds.com. I paid about what they recommended. I didn't check, but I assume it's going to be less than the number your looking at.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

Last fall I got a 2000 Limited 4x4 7.3 X black with tan with 104K miles for $18,999. It had every option but the back up sensors and dvd player. The truck did have brand new Good years though. I replaced the tow mirrors with new ones off of ebay due to cracking and the front gill was a little damaged. The parts cost me under $200 shipped.

So far at 116K miles the CPS has been replaced, $90 at International.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

What is the CPS? This may be a really dumb question, but I've heard many people replacing this with higher miles. I just bought my 2000 X at 78,000 miles and now have almost 85,000 miles on it with no problems...is this something I need to watch out for !

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

Camshaft Position Sensor, goes in the front of the motor up towards the middle. Easy to replace takes about 15 minutes. You replace it from under the truck. You unplug a connector and take out one bolt using a small extension.

Ford gets around $180 for the part while International gets $90.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

I'd check nada.com or kbb.com. Usually kbb is higher on values by a few grand than nada though. Most insurance companies go off of nada.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

IF using KBB, Make sure you check private party and trade-in values... Those can be off by several thousand dollars!

Around here, if you paid private seller prices you paid too much, IMHO. And btw, I've had a hard time getting dealers to give me close to trade-in values. More like about 10% lower than KBB. Hope this helps.

These are just my personal experiences...

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

You will find that Edmunds is a good source for determining your purchase price, but most (not all) banks will use NADA for financing. Since there are actually 3 transactions going on, use them appropriately. Good luck.

Lastly, how will I know if my CPS goes out? Will the X not start?

[/ QUOTE ]

Your X will completely die. Ask me how I know! You will not be able to start your X.

Mine died while driving along minding my own business right in the middle of the road. Coasted over to the shoulder as far as I could make it, tried starting...nothing. Had it towed to the Ford dealer. Naturally this happened on the weekend and had to wait until Monday for them to look at it.

Monday rolled around, they got in, and it started right up. You know Ford, since the problem is not evident, they have no way of troubleshooting, so they said "drive it home and call us back if it happens again." 10 minutes later, I was Found On Road Dead again! Had it towed back a second time, this time they could not get it to start and proceeded to troubleshoot. Several hours later, they found out it was the Cam Position Sensor and replaced it. $100 warranty deductible.

This happened around 80,000 miles on my '00 X. Since it seems like these things are so destined for this problem, you would be smart to purchase the part now and be prepared to replace it for when it fails. It seems to fail at the most inconvenient time.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

Some people NEVER have their CPS go out, others have it happen several times. But as mentioned, there is little or no warning. Sometimes the engine runs rough like it is dieseling (no pun intended), others it just dies.

I am about to take a long road trip, and plan on buying one at an International dealer and keeping it and a wrench packed away in case of emergency. I'd rather spend 20 minutes getting dirty under the truck than 3 hours getting towed, waiting a day or two for a spare part, etc.

As for buying a PSD Excursion, this should not be on your "worry" list. By the way, those DVD systems are like $800 so factor in several hundred on the value. Check the quality of the tires as a new set will run you $800. If you could pick that ride up for $15,000...then you will have stolen it.

Re: Good price on '00 X limited powerstroke

When the CPS died on the X it first started to stall when going to a stop then it wouldn't start. It was towed thanks to triple A plus and then started and drove into the garage to replace the sensor. Rarely ever does the Check Engine light come on when the CPS fails. Most Ford dealerships should know to first check the sensor when there's failure.

Knock on wood, 159K+ miles on the 99 Powerstroke with original CPS!
