Got the X, drove 6.0 and 7.3 info...

Got my X last night (6/11/03) after driving a 7.3 and a 6.0. The story went like this-

Looked under 4 X's with the 6.0 and they all had the 'Stain' which I would infact call a leak after looking at it. I would not claim to second guess if it is really a leak or just some residue, but definitly visible.

Drove the first 7.3 LTD 4x4 and performed like my 99' F350 PSD with a little less power and throttle response, but drove very nice and the ride was good. Very nice and has the plesent sound of the 7.3 that I like ;-)

Next drove the 6.0 4x4 Eddie, didn't like the color and interior off the bat, but was anxious to give the 6.0 a rip. While at idle in the lot it sounded a bit odd, now I know what the "Idle Romp" sounds like. Out for the test, sounds good, but wait my foot is pressed so hard I thought it was in china, but the damn thing would not get past 40mph on the same road I was pulling 60+ with the old dog 7.3. Trans was hunting like a dead dog as well. Pretty obvious that it has all the said problems and was ready for a flash and a new crank seal. What a let down.

Finally had to jumped in another 6.0 but a 4x2 (had the leak) but motor sounded good at idle and upon test drive it hauls a$$. The trans and engine combo was beautiful! It was much more responsive then then 7.4 and 4spd and plain old just moved, the 5 speed auto was much nicer out of the hole and just did a great job of shifting without that sloppy feel...Crisp is the word!

All 3 trucks hat about 18miles on them, none have the sway bar on the rear. Don't know build codes on any of the 6.0's. The 6.0 4x4 with the bad engine did ride a bit stiffer then the 7.3, like a set of better shock were on it, but my o'lady (who is pregnant) liked the smoother ride of the 7.3 so that was an issue ;-).

Decided on the 7.3 Limited 4x4 due to a known qty, and 0.0% for 5 years that was a big help ... and was a really nice truck.

I would have prefered to have a working 6.0, but with a little bit of work I'm sure the 7.3 will perk up a bit.

This list is fantastic and I'm glad I came by to learn before I bought!

As above your mileage may vary!

Re: Got the X, drove 6.0 and 7.3 info...

I bought the 7.3 for the same reasons. Most of all the tried and true wins hands down. I now have 14,000 and the power is great and the mileage is also. I am getting 16 in the city and one pure hwy trip was 17.8. These really picked up after about 10,000 miles. I know thet there is a ton of power hidden in the 7.3 so getting to the power of a 6.0 is just hundreds of dollars away. I also could not wait for the 6.0. Mine came in Dec 2002 and has been all I hoped it would be

I am in the same boat. Would love to have a good running 6.0, but no rebates on 6.0's when I bought mine versus 0.0% on the 7.3's. 6.0's $$$ did not add up for me.

My '99 7.3 pulled everything that I asked it to, so my '03 will be just fine. Could it be better? Yes. I'd like to be married (or maybe just dating) a supermodel too.

Uh-oh . . . Shouldn't have said THAT!

If you were married you would be driving a bone stock 03 like me. If I was single I would have big tires, a lift and new rims so consider yourself lucky and remember to be careful of what you wish for (unless you do get a supermodel)

C'mon. A "bone stock" Limited Ultimate??? That's roughing it?

Me and my pitiful XLT. We can only dream of having it so nice.

P.S. - My wife doesn't read the forums, and I don't tell her about ALL my posts.

Re: Got the X, drove 6.0 and 7.3 info...

Well, I guess not bone stock. I tinted the front windows, added a stainless exhaust tip, and installed a killer stereo. That alone makes it worth it. I really want rims, tires, and a 2 inch lift. I can sneak the lift on but the tires and rims are too noticable. All in time grasshopper
