I'm going to try and explain this one on my 7.3 2003 X with 3000 miles on it.
When i'm going down the higway about 40-65 i get a humming or vibration more of a humming. When I let off the gas i get it more than when I am accelerating. It's not a tire humm it's a little deeper than that. It's really annoying to me because I can't figure out what it is.
I know the description sucks but I'm trying to figure out if it's something that ford needs to fix or something that I need live with.
I was almost thinking like it had something to do with the transmission because when I let off the gas I really notice it.
Sorry for the long post but I just did a 300 mile trip and it was annoying me.
You've got a brand new truck, if it does it all the time take it to the dealer and make them figure it out! That's what your warranty is for....

Have same problem.Starts on the nose at 55 seems to get worse as speed increases.Doesn't really feel like tires.
When I took it to the dealer I was told "Nope, don't feel a thing"
Same with the hard brake pedal.

Just returned from a local drive shaft shop. They advised that the newer OEM driveshafts are equipped with new universal joints which have spring washers inside the bearing cups to help keep the joint centered while reducing heat. He told me that at around 100K most driveshafts need to be rebuilt since the joints start to go, and often the shafts also develop a "bow". So I'm having mine done tomorrow to correct a vibration I've had for about 10K miles.

Well, the drone/vibration is gone, and now there's no change in the sound/vibration when I get on/off the throttle. Throuble is now I can feel/hear my aging tires...need to balance. Dale

Mine had a nasty drone when it was stock. Came on at about 55-60, and again from 70 to 78. 80 was nice and quiet with a slight turbo whistle (still is) but I'd rather not give all my money to the State Police. Worse when it was in FWD or under some load. When I tried a straight-pipe in the factory system, much of the drone was gone but the exhaust was louder. So I thought that maybe removing the weight of the muffler changed the harmonic response of the system, lessening the drone. But I also lost some drone when I chipped it, so I could also say that improving the efficiency makes the engine work less, and drone less. Just thinking on-screen. Dale
