"Harpoon" tank vent mod??

Has anyone done this modification to an Excursion fuel tank? If so, what were the results?

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

I did not look at it while I had the tank out, but have never really had a problem with getting the tank filled, I can only get maybe another gallon in after the pump clicks off. I'm not sure if we have as a bad a problem as the SD's

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

Mine will take 4 more gallons if I take the time. I usually don't.

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

My assumption is that the X has it already, sorta like the Pickups have the rear sway bar and we have the big tank vent

There's something different about the X tank for I can go to any Card lock which fills at the pace of a gallon every 3 seconds and I don't get no burp when it's filled like we did with the F250.

That's my theory to it

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

I've never had a burp/overflow problem with my truck using the big truck pumps either. I'm just looking for a faster way to get the last 4 gallons of fuel in.

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

I've pumped 44 gallons into mine, when it wasn't empty.

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

My '99 SuperDuty Supercab had a 29 gallon tank. I put 31 gallons in it one time, and it wasn't empty either.

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

The last time I filled the tank on my 03X, my 'miles to go' display read 0 for almost 2 miles before I got to the truck stop. I put 45.642 gals in, which filled it all the way to the top of the fill pipe. I wasn't really trying to see how much fuel I could put in, but I don't think I would have gone much farther before I had to start walking!

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

Just as a note to the new PSD owners, when letting your fuel level to drop 1/4 tank or less,it allows for more air to enter the fuel line going to the injectors which can cause enhanced noise and possible injector failure.

Then again that's what warranty is for

Just wouldn't want to be without my truck while it sits in the service drive waiting to get worked on

ran mine down to "0" this weekend .couldn't find diesel.
must've been on fumes but I pumped 46.75 gallons and could see the fuel around 4-5 inches beyond the metal flap.
Saw your follow up post that says running under a 1/4 tank can let air in and damage the injectors. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've been stuck like this. Now you've got me wondering if this might not be why I feel I've lost a bit of power. The engine also seems to knock a little more under acceleratrion than it used to .

Re: "Harpoon" tank vent mod??

When mine used to cackle, it was definitely worse below 1/4 of a tank.
