height needed to clear 305/55-20?

Saw an X this weekend parked at a gas station/shop that was identical to mine except it had 20 inch wheels on a 305/55 tire.

It looked really good the stance seemed about perfect. I looked underneath and there didn't appear to be anything done to it in terms of lift...Stock shocks the owner wasn't around to ask questions.

Will I be able to get away with this wheel tire combo just by doing a V & F code swap?

Re: height needed to clear 305/55-20?

Was it mine? lol Yes with the spring swap you can clear 305/55/20. Actually I have the v codes on the front and am going to do the f codes this coming weelend and I have the 20's on there already...
If I enter the driveway off camber to quickly I will get it to rub the leafs in the front, but for everyday driving my wife does, I dont have any concerns..and it rides like a caddy. I love it! super smooth on the highway..

Re: height needed to clear 305/55-20?

I have 3"s with 315/70/17s so they would be the same OD. I rub when I am turned way over but it is on my mud flaps, I have those contoured ones and I can't cut them back anymore than I have. I cut the black valance on a sharper angle, that may help the approach rub said above. They put the 20s on the SD PU but that truck is about an inch lower than mine. I have V codes with a 1.5" add a leaf.

Re: height needed to clear 305/55-20?

Was it a Black Limited 05? I am in WA with V's and B's with F350 Blocks and a leveling kit in the front. 4" total lift over stock 4x4 height. My 305 55 20's on 20x8.5 rims. I do not rub at all on the body or springs, but I have the stiff Dura-Flap mud flaps that I love, but because they hang straight down and the tires rub the mud flap at almost full-lock. With the 4" of lift I could have gone with 325x60x20, but I would have needed to remove the flaps and get wider rims, and since I pull a 32ft travel trailer, I was afraid I would miss too much power due to the bigger tires. I really like the look though. Have a great day, Garry

Re: height needed to clear 305/55-20?

Good subject.
I have a bit of a different question, but along the same lines.

I have a set of zero mile 2006 20" Harley wheels and tires (I'm pretty sure the tire size is 275/75) that are just begging to be installed on the Ex.
I know the backspacing is different from 05 to 06, but assuming I could find some spacers, how much lift would be required to clear those tires? I want to keep the lift to a minimum, and my understanding is that the 05 Ex came with a spring set up similar to the V and B code. Is that right?

Thanks in advance.
