Hellwig Antisway Bar - I Believe, I Believe

Just completed the installation of Hellwig Antisway Bar, Bilstein shocks (Front and Rear), and ISSPRO EV Gauges in A-Pillar mount.

I have to say it took me about 10 minutes of driving to see what everyone was raving about with regard to the Hellwig. All I can say is, "I believe , I'm a believer , I've seen the light . Grasshopper take the pebble from my hand. "

The excursion went around a corner and stayed flat on all fours the whole time. I couldn't believe the dramatic improvement. Felt like I was cornering in my 97 Mustang GT. I just didn't think it would be as dramatic as some people had stated. But it was. Drove home and hit every curve a little faster than usual to get a feel for handling. I was very impressed. I feel like I have a much improved suspension system.

Love the gauges too BTW. Will come in handy next week on my 600 mile drive to Venice La from Macon Ga towing a 11,400 lb boat.

Not sure where you live, but just remember when there's ice on the roads the swaybar won't help!

(I found myself taking interstate entry ramps so much faster . . .the thing was I didn't know how fast I was going until I looked down at the speedometer)

Have a good one,
Dave

Re: Hellwig Antisway Bar - I Believe, I Believe

Almost there myself--walked into the church and put money in the plate. I just haven't walked up to the altar yet. I can't wait to TESTIFY myself!!!

Just have to find the time to put mine on. It's been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks daring me to take it out of the box. After three years of owning this truck, I'm sure I'll notice any difference immediately.

Re: Hellwig Antisway Bar - I Believe, I Believe

Ok, I was right about the Hellwig,
next upgrade you NEED to listene to me on is this Diablo Predator fro the 6.0...
drive one impressions are SCARY !
still evaluating it, but my goodness first thru second in my 4x4 Ex is stunning ! thoght about putting it in 4x4 to see if it would spin all 4 tires, but come on - it's a family SUV - they're not supposed to be like that !!!

let me drive it for a few more days and I'll let you know...

Welcome to the other side It's amazing something as simple as adding a sway bar will do for an Excursion or almost any vehicle

Re: Hellwig Antisway Bar - Steering Damper Added

I also recently added the bar and find it an improvement. I noticed a bit more bump steer as it seemed like what used to be absorbed by the truck's sway was now transmitted into verticle movement, and increased steering wheel sensitivity.

Perhaps I need to add the Bilsteins, I still have the stock shocks.

What I did add was the Rancho Steering Damper strut. It is about $40.00 at Central 4wd. It very slightly increased the steering effort, and greatly reduced the sterring wheel's sensitivity to bumps.

Dan,you will be amazed what crap the stock shocks are when you take them out.It takes no effort to compress them.I drive my X now like I used to drive my patrol cars when I was working. No more white-knuckles for me.Joe M.

Ed - Are you talking shocks or sway bar? I know J.C Whitney usually has the rear sway bar for the 4X4 in stock. They will give you 15% off their catalog price if you ask.

If you are talking about the shocks or the front sway bar or equipment for a 4X2, call them. They usually have more than what the catalog shows. The also can usually special order something for you. As far as I am aware, all stock 4X4 wheel drive Excursions, 2000-2004 model years, take the same shocks and sway bars. Also as far as I am aware, all stock 4X2 wheel drive Excursions, 2000-20004 model years, take the same shocks and sway bars. Ford has not changed any thing that has changed these items.

DUH Dummy did it again. I think I got my reply in the wrong thread. Dan asked about the bumper guards that you used to see that bolted on the bumpers. You know the little ones about 12" high. Oh well what can I say. as usual.
