Hellwig Installation

I installed my Hellwig sway bar last week. The installation went fine, but I have one question to any of you who have had one installed or installed one yourself. What did you do with the emergency brake line hanger? This had to be removed in order to install the sway bar link. The instructions are not clear on what to do. Did you rehang it somewhere?

Re: Hellwig Installation

Well so much for my memory. I reinstalled the hanger on the outside of the frame utilizing the same bolt that supports the bar. I just slipped the hoop around the head of the bolt.

Hope this helps.

John

Re: Hellwig Installation

There are 2 holes to mount the link to. The closest hole to the link is the hole that the brake line bracket bolt goes through. This hole is exactly the same diameter as the sway bar link bolt. The other hole (about 1/4" back and 3/4" higher) is slightly larger. I used these slightly higher and larger holes. I put the brake line braket back where it was but I had to reverse the bolt and grind the head some. This seems to work. I just did not like the idea of attaching that brake line bracket to link bolt itself.

Re: Hellwig Installation

What size/length bolt connects the link to the frame? I seem to be missing that bolt on the driver's side.

Re: Hellwig Installation

Any comments as too the liking or disliking of your anti sway-bar addition? Worth the $$? Any idea on cost?

Re: Hellwig Installation

The rear didn't seem to make a major difference, but don't put a lot of validity into my comment until I reconnect it tomorrow. It lost a bolt for unknown reason, and is essentially disconnected.

The front was absolutely amazing. I had my Rancho shocks dialed up to 5, and was wishing for 6 or 7 and afraid that I would need dual shocks or something. After I put on the new front bar, I ended up lowering the front shocks to 2 I believe. I hit an admittedly severe manhole cover dip, and could feel the bump on both sides for the first time after I installed the front bar.
