Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

It looks like the Hellwig rear sway bar, replaces the rear shock mounts. Is this correct? I have my Rancho shocks on order and now I am wondering if I should just do the sway bar at the same time? I would hate to take the rear shock off again to put the sway bar on at a later date.

Dave, maybe you will have to get a early Christmas gift this year . I bet you could complete the project over your Thanksgiving break.

We're pretty much amazed at how much has been done in the amount of time given especially with Shell in the office and me doing the Mr Mom role

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

From an email from Hellwig yesterday;
"front (Part No. 7640) as well as a rear (Part No. 7643) for the Excursion 4x4."

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

As I recall, the kit came with a bracket that went over the existing mounts, and you just have to change out the u-bolts. I did mine w/o removing the shocks, just had to heave-ho to get them back up. I don't think it took more than an hour to do. The front mount mounts up by the front shackle to the inadequete leaf springs, and getting that vertical is important. Did they mention in the instructions not to jack up the truck? I did that with my conversion van once, and it messed up the angles. Hope this helps.
Nice username, by the way.

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

Dave the part #HEL-7643 ordered it from Summit Racing for like $134 or $136 shipped.
Call and confirm with them that they have the rear in stock

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

Have not picked one up yet Dave, was just getting all my ducks in a row! Had different vendors giving me two part numbers, so I asked Hellwig.

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

I got mine at JC Whitney for $121 delivered. (Always ask for a discount or special!) Part # 55du5376T. This is for the Hellwig 7643 rear anti-sway bar.

The fella above was correct that the shocks don't have to come off, only the U-bolts to put on new ones and install the plate that holds the bushings mounts.

BTW, keep your eye on www.fordexcursions.com

We are currently pursuing a Group Purchase for the 7643 bar. Should be a nice savings! Check it out!

Re: Hellwig Rear Sway Bar

Dang $121 to the door I priced with JCWhitney and they we're gonna tap me for $143 to the door.

The rear sway bar looks like a few hour job with pulling the U bolts off.

Look in the Excursion discussion forum. There is a thread about it. Watch that thread.

_________

Bill, you are correct. It took me about 1.5-2.0 hours to complete it, test it and retighten (verify) everything after a few hundred miles.
