Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

Just finished the installation this weekend. As mentioned before instructions are weak but installation was fairly straight forward.

For the ones that have installed these I have a couple of questions. How did you mount your emergency cable bracket? And what did your torque the U-bolts to?

Instructions were not real clear on the cable bracket. I mounted mine on the top bolt of the end-link. I put a SAE washer on the bolt first, then the emergency brake bracket, then a regular washer, then the link, and finally another washer. Everthing fits and looks good like this, but the clearance on this side is not as much as on the passenger side. I don't think it will hit but was curious as to what the rest of you did to mount the bracket.

I torqued the U-Bolts to 50 ft-lbs. Would have liked to go to 60, but was a little concerned about twisting the U-bolt off.

FYI, I had to remove one link from the end links.

Re: Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

Just received my rear Helwig from JC Wit. Fits well. Took the wire emer. holder, broke that little ear off and remounted the wire holder in the 3rd hole on frame closest to the front of vehicle using a 1 1/4x 5/16 body bolt. Looks like it was made that way. Very impressed with Helwig, EX definitly needs this add on. Best thing I've bought so far. _____________________________________________ 01 LTD loaded 4X4 white PSD Bilsteins Helwig Ford Outfitters for rubber mats wing wood dash dash cover

Re: Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

curlysir: I use the old miltary methood tighten till they break or strip then back off 1/4 turn. They are very strong U-bolts. I torque heads, intakes, valve bodys. U-bolts? maybe good idea, but if you cinch them up tight equally shouldn't have problems.

Re: Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

Could somebody post some pics of the Hellwig after installation? It would sure be nice to have SOMETHING to go by given that the instructions that come with the kit are not very clear.

Re: Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

Ditto: Please provide some pics; I too want to do this mod. Pics of mounting on each side, brake mount, etc. would be very helpful.

Also, what link had to be removed? Did everyone remove this link?

Any other gotchas? Thanks.

Re: Hellwig Rear Swaybar Install Question

I just ordered mine as well from JC whitney. I am definetly currious if everybody had to take a link out and how cliffsurfs mounted his brake line.
