Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

I'm going to do the X spring upgrade soon and will be installing an add-a-leaf in the rear (Ranchos) Anyway, with the "little" increased spring rate from adding the add-a-leaf do you think I would have to add the Hellwig sway bar aswell? I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone here, or is it impossible? I'm thinking if I'm going to have to lift the rear with an X spring install I figured I would lift it with a leaf and hopefully stiffin it up a little

Or should I just lift the rear the cheaper way and buy a hellwig?

Brent.

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

A Jack of all trades is a master of none

So sometimes killing two birds with one stone doesn't do either bird any good

The rear sway bar will do WONDERS for your Ex if u don't have a rear bar now... you'll wonder HOW in the world you ever got by without it..

the springs may HELP the sway, but at the expense of a little ride quality...
the rear bar @ JC Whitney is like $130 delivered ????
Well worth it... just search for and read the before and afters on the hellwig installs here...

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

Thanks, I do have the OEM one but I know it's not up to the capabilities of the hellwig. Now I just need to decide on how to lift the rear.

Thanks,
Brent.

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

If you're doing X Codes, I think you can use F350 rear blocks and get it level without changing or adding springs.

If you have the OEM rear bar, the improvment may be there, but it may not be "economicly feasible". (bang for the buck may be more like a pop for the buck )

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

If you do have an OE bar (on a 2001 ) then you might but in a 30MM bar for under $50

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

Well I'll Be darned ! I was mistaken, I don't have a rear sway bar. I was under the assumption I did without even looking. I guess I'll be installing the Hellwig for sure now.

As for the lift, I was concidering the add-a-leaf to stiffin her up a bit back there. Call it stupid, but I just don't like the soft ride. Then on the same token I don't want it to ride like my 96' 350 by any means That beast with it's back-ass-wards shackle design up front will knock your teeth loose!

Thanks,
Brent.

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

X codes will be a little short in the back, you will need a 4" block. If you want to stiffen, raise, and not install the sway bar you should go with air bags, they can be stiff, 0-100psi stiff, will raise the truck as much or more than 2" and strenghten the back side to side motion and body roll which is what the sway bar does. You can kill three birds with one stone..and you get great leveling when you have a lot of tounge weight.

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

The Hellwig Sway Bar is an absolute must have. You'll notice a BIG difference in handling and I had the OEM bar before.

Re: Hellwig Sway Bar or Add-A -Leaf?

I deffinately will go with the Hellwig sway bar! I'm still guessing on the rear lifting possabilities. I'll most likely do the block style lift and the sway bar and see if it's OK.

Thanks,
Brent.
