Help - Fuel Issues

Hey crew - I need your help. You can read my post concerning my fuel issues: Vibrating, loss of power.......

Now - if I have to drop the tank, how do I do it. Do I need to remove the receiver? What about the tank shield? Anything different on the Excursion's fuel system? Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
John

Yes you have to drop the hitch which is riveted on. It was Coldair. Give a shout out to him. He has had to drop the hitch.

Is there an access door in the floorboard to access the sending unit? I haven't checked mine,so I don't know but it would be a good idea to make one if it is not there? I hate dropping fuel tanks on any vehicle, don't know why, just hate it. But of course if you are going to drain the tank and clean it I doubt you would want to do that from inside the X

Not on the X there isn't. I dropped the tank and didn't see any access area.

You do not have to remove the hitch to drop the tank I have had the tank off of both Xs.
It is not a bad job if it is near empty.
The skid plate holds it up so they come down together.
A set of ramps, a floor jack and an extra set of hands makes it easy. Depending on your ramp height you will have to slid the jack out from under the tank then slide the tank out. Unless you are way lifted the tank is to tall to get out with the truck on the ground.
You have to disconect the hoses (4) and the sender electrical about half way down but it is not bad. Fuel and return come off at the tank, dont remember about the filler and vent but I think I took them off the truck and left them on the tank, just not sure it's been a while.

Don't forget to harpoon the tank while you have it down, a compact tube cutter works well, not as close a cut as with a small saw but you don't have plastic chips it the tank when you are done!

I've seen reference to 'harpooning' in previous X posts related to the tank. What is that? I used to think it referred to making the filler neck large enough for a big rig fuel fill, but in this context I don't think so.

Unhappy I'm new and I'm having fuel issues too...I think

I have a 2001 Excursion with the 7.3 Powerstroke,I have a Diablosport programmer, and it has exaust upgrades. My problem is that sometimes it stumbles when I am trying to leave from a light. It has only completely died one time.My husband says its all in my head because it is random and he can't reproduce the problem.I am upset because I took it to have the recalled sensor replaced and was told that this should fix this problem. So now I think it's fuel delivery.Any help is welcomed.
