HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

My '05 Ex leaks a bunch of really fine dust into the entire cab while driving down dirt roads at speed (which for here is anywhere between 35 and 70 mph).
It looks like there is a ton of dirt sucking in underneath the rear window, as there is always some very fine dust sitting on top of the rear doors.
Is there any way to cure this? I have even tried running the fan on high in reciculate mode to try to "pressurize" the cabin to slow down dirt.
One of my kids has pretty bad allergies, and the fine dust floating around the cabin on the way to our cabin at the lake is not good for her.

Thanks in advance!

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

Hey are you from OSO?? I would dunk the truck in the lake and see where water comes in.....I am in a bad mood due to the $1000 repair I have....but otherwise it is a tough one, you need to either preasurize the inside or figure out a way to force the air in or out to see, I don't have this problem and the top of the doors are always filthy. You could try an air foil over the rear hatch to deflect the wind down. It is all trial and error unless you dunk it

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

I've been known to post a couple times over there....in fact I was the guy who won their "drive drambuie on ice at Key West" giveaway. What a great trip that was!

I would dunk it, but something worse might happen...fish smell

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

I guess Ishould clarify a bit....I don't mind a little dust, but this is to the point that you can actually "smell" and see the dust inside the cabin. Very nasty.
Does anyone make better/thicker aftermarket seals for the Ex, or is it more of a fresh air venting issue?

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

I had the same problem with my 2000- lots of trips to Canada each summer through the UP. I wound up installing an air deflector purchased from a local truck cap dealer, and it cut it way down. Not a total cure, but it helped on my Suburban I owned before the X too. I'm sure I'll be adding one to this '02, since we still have the property up north.

Nice to see some OSO'ers here- just talked with Crazyhorse on the phone this afternoon!
I still have my 'Drambuie on Ice' t-shirt from their win at the worlds in Biloxi years ago. A gift from John T. for being a die-hard fan. He's a real stand-up guy.

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

It's an OSO reunion. Searay Jim

What I did was get some clear vinyl tubing, ( think I used 5/16's, I have some left I can check) and ran it through the door seals on all 4 doors and the rear.

The doors are a breeze since the seals pop right off the truck. Lay them out, spray a little soapy water in the seal and slide the clear tubing in and trim at the end.

It's really quick, and the doors close tighter. In the winter they sometimes need an extra hard nudge to close. I noticed a slight difference in extrior sound as well as dust. But I like to run with the windows down when I can, and I'm sure the A/C sucks some in. I hear the cabin filter don't work so good. LOL

OT, yesterday I thought I'd have some fun with an Eliminator Cat. I ran by and pinned the throttle just to mess with him. No, I know he'll spank me, and with half the power, but it's fun to see peoples looks sometimes, when boat like mine comes by like that, sounding like that.

Well, I'm not sure how he looked but I'm sure it was either laughing or shaking his head. I appearently tugged the lanyard a little when I got set up and killed it. Put it back in, cranked it up and took off again...killed it again. I freaked thinking it was something else. Nope, I just didn't get the kill switch flipped all the way in. I figered 2 times was enough.

We cruised to the cove, anchored and enjoyed the day. I didn't pull that stunt again.

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

Chart here. I beat a gladiator with staggard engines yesterday. But long after we crossed the finish line he kept going faster and faster. I guess the shame of losing to an old Formula made him run away. Or, he might not have known we were racing through the cove and the end of the no-wake zone was the finish line

Jafo: good to see you've surfaced. Have you gotten back into boating?

Oh, dust thing: try blue painter's tape over select door seams to see if that cuts it down. Then you'll know where to direct your efforts.

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

Good suggestions, I'll try them!

Jafo-Meeting JT was probably THE highlight of the Key West trip, he is absolutely a great guy. Cruising through the harbor at 120+ with JT at the sticks in Montano's 42 MTI was an experience I will never forget!

I sold my DCB....miss it already. 125 MPH with tame power is something you can't get in a V hull. Don't miss the insurance payments though!

When the kids get older and we have time to go to LOTO again, I will find a Cig with 6 drives and go have some fun!! Cig's are still the best!

Oh, and if anyone ever finds an old 20' Cig for sale, LET ME KNOW!! I need another project! It would fit great on my small local lake.

Re: HELP!! How do I keep out dust?

Do a search on the door seal mod... You add a 1/8" tube inside the weatherstripping and it helps to tighten everything up... Did it on the wifes X and it made a huge deal in the sound...

A guy has one that lives next door to some friends. It drives me nuts. It's a very nice nieghborhood and he keeps it in a 3rd garage but it's too long to close the door. It's behind a gate so it's hidden, but the bow sticks out in the sun about 4-5 feet. Looks like a really clean boat but I'm sure the bow could use some TLC.
