Help To Lift or not to lift and tires

I would like to lift my diesel Excursion but I don't want to loose any of it towing capability or power. I also don't want to put any sub-standard lifts and tires. It seems when you go to a 4x4 store they want to sell you whatever is on special for them. I want to be educated when I walk in. Does anyone know of a web site or book that can increase my knowledge on this subject. Most books seem to be geared towards Jeeps.

Re: Help To Lift or not to lift and tires

Pretty much the best advise I can give is this..
1) Get some truck magizines and read them. Read the reviews of lifts for Superduty pickups because in the end they will end up being similar to the ones for the Excursion.
2) Sights/Forums like Ford-Diesel.com. Just do a search for 4x4 trucks or something like that and you'll end up finding quite a few sights that are 4x4/Offroad that may help you.

Best place for info on how a lift will effect your towing is the lift manufacter. They can tell you if the springs are up to the weight you want to tow.

One thing about lifting and towing, since the lift will raise the center of gravity of the truck it probably won't be quite as stable as a stocker.

For tires don't pay attention too much to the weight rating, look at the spec sheets and see what the max load is and at what pressure. I know that 35/12.5x16.5 BFG AT's have a weight rating of over 3300lbs/tire @50psi.

Hope this all helps

Re: Help To Lift or not to lift and tires

Here is an Excursion that we finished up last month. It has a 3" leveler in the fron and 2" blocks it the back. The owner went with 16X10 rims and a metric 33" tire. The rating on these tires are 3195 per tire @ 50psi. Hope this helps. http://www.superlinerandmore.com/Excursion.jpg http://www.superlinerandmore.com/excursion2.jpg http://www.superlinerandmore.com/f250excursion.jpg

Re: Help To Lift or not to lift and tires

Mr. Superduty, I really like those wheels and tires. Could you tell me the exact brand and name of each? Thanks.
