The Toronto Star runs it's "Wheels" section in the Saturday paper.
.. and they're reporting that July sales of Excursions are up 82% compared to the previous July. Good news, I suppose.
They also report that a 300 hp Duramax will be available in the 05 H1, as opposed to the 210 hp Diesel that it ships with now. They also confirmed our speculation that the Duramax won't fit in the H2 (and thus I assume not in the Tahoe/Suburban either).
Naw. It was just in the column of industry news... so it was an "also" while they were talking about Ford making money on focuses and trucks and not so much on other vehicles.
"Sales" to Ford does not mean retail sales. The auto makers book a "sale" when the car/truck is made. That is why they hate to slow down plants. Any cut in production cuts into "sales".
"Sales" of the X are not up in 2004 over 2003. YTD, KTP has made 11,000 X's. YTD in 2003, KTP had made 16,000 Xs.
The one thing I have always wondered about is the production for the hertz fleet. Since ford owns 100% of hertz, they cannot record a Sale when they send their cars to hertz. I travel a ton, and every hertz I go to, especially the large cities, have at minimum 20 sitting there for rental, and that doesnt count the ones already rented.

Yes they can. Two completely different companies. Ford sells to Hertz, and books a sale.
No they cant, sales to 100% owned subsidiaries will not show up in ford's consolidated financial statements they file with the SEC. Otherwise, you could overstate your true sales amount and mislead investors.

Its true Jschira, but that only to fleets that they dont own. Like ford selling to avis, gm to hertz etc. Look at p. 98 of the ford 10-k. They clearly show hertz as "intercompany"

Looks like "sales" are down by 1/3.

OK, but what does "sales" mean to the Toronto Star? How about actual sales?
Why am I attracted to cars that they don't make many of?
