Higher rear hatch???

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, I did a search and didn't get my question answered. We may be in the market for an diesel Excursion, but I don't care for the height of the rear hatch when it's open. I'm 6'3" and I hit my head trying to put things in the back. Has anyone made modifications to open it more, different struts? Thanks for the help. Hope to more actively join this forum if we purchase one. It's been a little while.

Re: Higher rear hatch???

Simply swap them out for the ones used on the 2 wheel drive version of the Excursion.

Re: Higher rear hatch???

Search for username Tecate Virgin dated 01/02/01 for the complete story. I think the Ford part numbers are also listed. That was my only complaint with the X. When I found the solution, I posted it on the forum. My X is a 4X4, and with the 2X4 struts it opens so that the rear hatch glass is parallel with the ground. I'm also 6'3" and I have no problem now.

Re: Higher rear hatch???

The ""TWO"" wheel drive version works great....

JUST BE VERY CAREFUL, WHEN DOING THE INSTALLATION.....

THE LID IS VERY, VERY HEAVY....

I propped mine up with a 2x4x8', while I did it....

took 10-15 minutes...parts $42.00 for both, @ disc parts place

Re: Higher rear hatch???

Hey Scotpart! Good to see ya!

Love my Scotpart Mod! My noggin especially appreciates not getting thumped by the hatch too!

Ditto on the weight of the hatch, surprised me BIGTIME once I disconnected the struts. Muscles don't fail me now!

Re: Higher rear hatch???

I am 6'2" and never hit my head on the hatch. Of course it has 8 inches of lift sitting on 325/60/20s!
