At $46,000 each -- $54,000 equipped -- the SUVs will be able to carry all the equipment needed to provide an initial response to any call.

That will get them environmental, tree hugging, sierra club wackos going. I don't think the sale of two Excursions too anyone is going to save it.
There's hundreds of departments at all levels that have Excursions, mostly Fire/Police/EMS & Border Patrol,I've seen a couple of TAC FBI's

A TAHOE?!?!?! I knew there was something I didn't like about him.
The Border Patrol here in the Soo have 8-10 Excursions & 4-6 Tahoes if i were to guess. The Soo Locks and Canadian International bridge give us alot of officers in a small area.
All of these vehicles are gassers, haven't seen a diesel yet. I have seen them run down the expressway 90-100mph all the way to the Mackinaw Bridge. Those Border Patrol Agents don't have speed limits, as often as I see them speeding on the expressway, I'm sure it's always an urgent matter, NOT!
Ya, one of those passed me yesterday on 1-75 south of the bridge. I was going 80. Nice grill guard. Gassers so they start at -20 or below???
The Tahoe's up at the north border probably looks like THIS but these Brownsville TX agents had to stop and build a snowman this past Christmas

Gassers so they don't cost so much up front? These vehicles aren't towing and probably aren't driven enough to justify the cost of the diesel engine.
Government budgets sometimes work in funny ways. Sometimes capital to buy the vehicle up front is lacking, and there is plenty of expense money for fuel, so they buy the gasser. Other times the opposite is true.
