Hood release???????????????????

I have an 04 X and the hood release stopped working. Seems like the cable stretched. Is this common? The seat release cable had to be replaced also. It would not release are they using rubber?

Re: Hood release???????????????????

Same here. I do not have that kind of mileage, but I have never heard anyone have that problem to now.

Re: Hood release???????????????????

Mine did this just the other day. At first I thought I just didnt pull hard enough. Another tug didnt help. I ended up just lifting on the hood and it popped up. Havent had a chance to look into whats causing it yet though. Ill have an answer this weekend.

This is what comes to my mind also, that maybe the release is working, but the hood is popping up on it's own. I had this problem on my old S10 Blazer. Opening the hood was a two person job. One to hold the lever, the other to pull up on the hood. Actually, I think I remember my X doing it once also. I suggest trying it with two people, one lifting the hood, one pulling the lever.

Keep us posted.

Re: Hood release???????????????????

I had the same prob. It was a two person job requiring some pushing & prying (fingers, no tools!) on the hood, while working the lever. After it popped open I lubricated the latching mechanism, slammed it shut and now works like a champ.

Hopefully your fix is this easy. Good luck.

Re: Hood release???????????????????

Had the exact problem on my '00. I had to pry a big screwdriver under the hood by the release and and pull to get it to release. Took it to the dealer to change oil and advised them I had trouble opening hood. When I picked it up, they said the "catch" was bent a little, so they straightened it and lubed it. Not sure I got the real story, but never had any problems after that. Yes, they charged me for like .25 of an hour, but I was going to break the dang thing off using the screwdriver. Very frustrating condition.

Re: Hood release???????????????????

Sorry I haven't been back in a while. I sprayed it with some PB Rust Buster and seems to work now. I hope it continues to be so compliant . I have a 96 Corvette and that locked itself down due to cable failure. I ended up making a tool myself to open it. No body could get it open. I was ready to take a sawzall to the hood.
