How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
In order to disable the RSS on my '04 X the dash mounted button needs to be pushed every time you shift into reverse. I do not look forward to having to push this button every time I want to back up my X when towing as the RSS will need to be shut off to back the trailer.
Is there a way to make it so the dash mounted button stays in the "off" position when pushed until it is pushed again to reenable the RSS? It would be great to have it stay off while the truck is running and reset back to on when the ignition is turned off.

Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
It would be nice if a push turned it off once and a push and hold for 5 seconds or so would keep it off, just like the OD button.

Maybe it would be possible to jerry rig an on-off switch, perhaps there's a similar Ford switch that's available that would work.

Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
I'd like it if it worked like the OD button .press it and it's "off" until you turn it back on or shut down the engine. That would solve the problem for me. (it's a major pain when backing a trailer). Even better would be for it to be disabled anytime the brake controller detected trailer brakes!
Regards,
Dave

We tow a few times a year and yes it's annoying hearing the beeper not beeping just a solid loud tone similar to Jim Carrey's screech in Dumb and Dumber
Now that's annoying
One way or another I'll fix the problem without unplugging the sensors or snipping anything.

Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
Hey, in the qwest to help bill rid us of this annoyance I have put the wiring diagram up:
Looks to me like the disable is a momentary switch that grounds the parking control module which is "reset" anytime you switch out of reverse. I'd imagine that a switch there that kept the wire grounded would disable it until it was ungrounded, but I'm definately ignorant in this area and would hate to screw up anyone's parking aid control module.
Regards,
Dave

Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
That would be easy enough. Install a holding relay inline with the disable switch. A holding relay will stay "made" until power is removed from it. In other words it only needs one signal to close (and stay closed), it doesn't need a continuous signal. Or replace the momentary switch with an on/off switch, but then you would loose the P logo on the switch.
Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
Just looked at the schematic for a 2003 X parking assist system.
The PAM (Parking Assist Module) is located in the Rt Rear a/c compartment. The system "arms" with the reverse light circuit. Looks like the way to disable it would be to interrupt the reverse light imput at pin 9 (BK/PK)on the connector with a switch or by wiring in a relay to cut that imput. The speaker is in the rear right side pillar,so following the wire from the speaker should lead to the PAM.
The switch could be put in the compartment or wiring run to locate it on the dash.

PS The other wiring diagram shown above was just a block diagram.

Re: How can I disable the reverse sensing system for extended periods of time?
Then it would be real easy, just put the switch back there. Your there anyway hooking up the trailer. Hook up the trailer, hit the switch, un-hook, turn it back on.
