How the market for used X's holding up

Thinking of selling my 2000 X. Do people out there know how the market is holding up for diesel X's? I think if it was gas powered I would be totally out of luck.

Wife and I considered buying a GMC Acadia. On our test drive we got 14mpg. Hmmm. the X is bigger and get better gas mileage. Other than getting something new, the economics of buying a smaller SVU just isn't there.

Maybe I'll buy a $50,000 Hybrid Hoe with the big sticker on the side and get 21 mpg. And by the way the back seats don't fold flat. Nope that won't do.

You know, if your X is paid for then I would keep it. When you figure what you will have to pay to replace it and the differences in fuel costs, you can sure drive that X for a long time and still be money ahead. We looked into it and decided to keep our X. For us it is a tool we cannot do without with 6 kids and so on.

Well my 2005 X has just been hit and I was looking at Auto Trader to see diesel values. Within 200 miles of my zip there are over 50 diesel limited X's for sale and average asking price is over $31,000. Some are above $40,000. Dealers may be giving next to nothing on trades but the retail prices are still pretty high for diesel X's.

"Asking" prices". Call 'em and see how many of those are actually selling. At any price.

I've got a buddy that has a magnificently clean and loaded '03 X that he bought last November for ~$24k. For various reasons, he's now trying to sell it. He's had it advertised at 24k, then 22k, now 20k; he's not even getting phone calls. NO phone calls. He tossed it on eBay with a $15k first bid and a $19k reserve and he got ZERO bids. Not even one at $15k.

Took it to three dealers; two wouldn't even offer ANYTHING for it, the third offered $10.5k.

I think it's safe to say that right now is a very, very bad time to try and sell any SUV...take the amount of cash you'd lose by selling it at a significantly loss, and divide that by the cost of diesel in your area, and multiply that by your fuel economy. I'm bettin' that's a lot of miles...is it worth it to you?

I checked NADA a couple months ago, for my Y2K-X, and they printed a $13-15K price....
I have'n t checked it recently since, """BUT"", I'm certain it dropped another couple grand...I average 12-18 around town...depending...so I just factor how many miles I drive at $0.30/mi for diesel.....I'm averaging about $250/mo now....trying to hold it to $200, because Sam's Club cuts the pumps off at $100....about 21/gals...2 fills a month.....America has to come to terms with pissing away petrol on frivolity..race cars , boats, atv's...etc..etc....NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD SQUANDERS ENERGY LIKE WE DO....People feel they have a right to, just beacuse they have the money, to buy it....
TAKE A SECOND LOOK, AND YOU SEE WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING.....
There will ""ALWAYS"" be more than enough energy available.....>>>>""""IT JUST WON'T BE CHEAP"""<<<< Say good-bye to friviolous squanderings

Just a thought;.....I'm old enough to remember that back in 1962, If you had some loose chang in your pocket, you could go into a filling station and buy a gallon of gas for $0.25....If you had a Silver dollar, you could get 4 gallons.....
>>>>"""GUESS WHAT"""<<<<.....
"""IF""""......YOU'VE GOT AN AMERICAN EAGLE SILVER DOLLAR CURRENTLY WORTH $17.00.....>>>>>>YOU COULD GO IN A BUY 4 GALLONS OF GAS.....
The price of gas hasn't changed, according to commodity evaluation.....your currency has depreciated, according to commodity evaluation.....
Tell the Federal Reserve to stop printing money, and your problems will be over....

Mine is not for sale. There is nothing on the market to replace it with. I pull a 30' travel trailer, pull my boat or haul Boy Scouts and their gear trailer. What else could I buy that has the people capacity as well as the towing capacity. Now I'm careful not to overload with people when towing. I know what the trailers I tow weight and watch how I'm loaded.

That would be a good start. Personally, I'd like to see all central banks kicked right out of the solar system. Then I'd laugh all the way to...my mattress!

My wife and I really like the truck, but she would like to get soemthing a bit smaller in length. So if you are a Ford fan you would think of next ... a Expedition, right. Again smaller and worse MPG. Dang!!

Let's get this straight, Ford didn't see this day coming, they only had 30 years since the last gas crisis to plan for it. I get a kick out of these commercials that tell you how great 30 mpg highway is. I've got a Jetta tdi and 30 mpg just sux. Why can't I buy a Toureg with a smaller diesel ? Where is the the Expedition with the baby diesel, for that matter where is the Focus with a diesel.
Rant, rant, rant.

By the way this is what the truck looks like 2000 X - TheDieselStop.Com Photo Hosting
I always get the thumbs up from other drivers in this truck and always cut of in the Jetta, why is that??

I am the guy that Greg is talking about and the market absolutely SUCKS for selling these things now. You can not give them away and I mean it.

I have had it for sale for 2.5 months and I have not gotten one phone call on it. I have dropped the price and dropped the prioce again and the buyers are simply not there. I am looking to find the family who needs one to tow, vacation, etc and most family's have stopped doing that as well.

Keep it for now. The challenge is we may be stuck because the oil markets may not recover and only get worse.

I'll predict, that with-in 2 years the price of diesel and gas will be back down...
>>>>>>""""" I'LL ALSO PREDICT, THAT, """""THAT"" WILL NOT BE ONLY THING DOWN""""
You'll like the price of diesel back down....BUT....you won't like what comes with it!!!!

I say less than one year and the price will go down. Use your own speculation on the evidence one could use to support this theory. Bought my X last month, had been watching for a month, the dealer lowered the price $2000 and I bought it. The same with my friend, we drove to Manassas VA to pick his up last Wednesday, he found it on the net. We have both been waiting for the prices to drop where we could afford them. Funny note: dealer tried telling me that everyone was wanting a diesel X, I told him not to even try that with me that I knew better and I was going to be his only chance to sell it so we needed to deal, he backed off then. And I drove it home. I bought mine to pull my TT, my friend just had his third boy, the 05 F250 crewcab was getting small for them. These are examples of who is willing to buy, but as buyers we both knew we had somewhat of an advantage.

We are like 97Crusher - we have a 2006 VW Jetta TDI we use when not pulling the travel trailer. At 40+ mpg it saves us a lot of money. Wife drives to 26 miles one way to work while I drive the X 4 miles round trip to work. Love my diesels!

A buddy of mine was bragging that his new Honda gets 20 mpg on the highway. My X has been getting 21.5 on the highway since the day I chipped it.(2001) It could do better in Miami traffic, but on the open road it's a beast.
