I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

Anyone have a recommendations for and Excursion 4x4 that will give a good ride and no tire noise but also will do a decent job in the snow?

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

I have used the Michelin LTX M/S on my Excursion and my other trucks withh great results. They are a little pricy, but not bad if you get them from COSTCO (they can order them) when than have a "coupon" sale.

Michelin also sells the same tire under a few different models for special stores - Wal-Mart, Sams, COSTCO, etc.

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

I bought Cooper Discoverer A/T's 285/75/16's about 20,000 miles ago and have been very happy with them. You can see them in my pics. That being said if I could have gotten a better deal on Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos I probably would have bought them. From my experience I think the Revos pick up much less gravel, etc, because there tread is more closed...and also they are probably quieter than my Coopers even though they are not bad. Good Luck

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

I got the BF Goodrich Somethingorother KO's. Weren't cheap, but they came with an off-road guarantee to not get stuck anywhere in North America (up to 3 times a year).

I have not been stuck in deep snow or axle deep muck and I have been in more than my share up in northern Ontario. They paddle right through snow and slop like a tracked vehicle. Fairly quiet on the highway, but they do have an aggressive tread pattern.

They are now just hitting 50K miles and I might get another 12K out of them this winter.

I second this notion. My X is almost as good in the snow in 2wd with the Revos as it was in 4x4 with the Firebombs. The ride is also smoother. Note: I have the 285s.

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

I used to run the Michelin LTX's and had good results, but I thought they'd be too soft for the X. I bought the Nitto Terra-Grapplers, and have been delighted with them so far. Only 4000 miles on them, but they track beautifully (no wandering) and they handled very well in a torrential downpour - no loss of control even when I could hardly see through the rain! If I had to replace tires again for any reason, they'd be my first choice.

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

We just got the Pirelli Scorpion AT's but only have had them on wet roads and they track well.Snow testing comes this January when we venture the Rockies and Sierra Nevadas.

With the agressive tread pattern I have no doubt they'll traction very well.

Check my photo album in my signiature for some photos of them installed.

The handling of the tires is excellent I must add.

Re: I am needing some new tires soon for the X...

We have the Nitto's and they are a nice tire, but I would not buy them agian. To soft for this rig, they have 15,000 miles on them and they are 50% worn out. The tire shop said they have had 3 sets come back worn out at 20-25,000 miles and all have been rotated at 4-5,000 miles. The next tire we buy will be the REVO or the TOYO.
