I learned my lesson....

I learned an 850$ lesson last week... I was getting some stuff out of the back of the Ex, it was windy and snowing, I had my hands full. A running shoe fell, keeping the passenger side "barn" door from closing all the way, well, I reached up with my elbow to pull the glass hatch down. When the hatch was about halfway down I realized the door was part way open but by then the gas struts took over and BAM!!! Shattered the glass hatch. Stupid me! hope someone else learns from my stupidity.... Be safe.

Re: I learned my lesson....

Call your insurance company they may cover a little of the cost.

Some lessons come cheaply but most cost a fortune. Nothing you can do. At least by posting it somebody else will not do the same thing.

Re: I learned my lesson....

I recently had a close call. I bought a new gas grill and it was 5 degrees out, the supports could not hold the glass up at this temp. I had the wife and 5 yr old son help. I told him to hold the glass up while we got the grill out. My wife knows that you cannot close the glass with the doors open that was why the son was helping. Anyhow, we got the grill out and my wife then took charge and told my son he is done. He let go, doors still open. Luckily I was very nervous/cautious and caught the glass before it hit with the doors open. Whew.

As the saying goes, "good help is hard to find."

Re: I learned my lesson....

This is one reason I keep the retainers off the doors if they are fully open.
You can close the the rear glass, it might save an opps some day.

HOWEVER if you close the left side then the glass and then the right side ask me what happens next?

Yep, been there done that, paid the deductable.

BTW ford list on the glass was about $2800! when I did it!

I think the total for my glass guy was like 1200 I just used whoever my insurance co was comfortable with, and paid my $500.00
