I love my Excursion Diesel

But I hate the operator’s station.

The steering wheel feels like I am stepping up to the plate holding the wrong end of the bat.

Yesterday while trying to enter freeway traffic I couldn’t get any acceleration until I noticed my foot was wedged between the pedal and carpeting on the hump. Luckily I was able to move my foot and mash down on the pedal causing that 7.2 to come to life. My wife thought we were going into orbit.

Anyone else like or dislike the fat steering wheel?

Anyone have any suggestions on finding the accelerator pedal quickly?

I sure wish it had a digital climate control.

Re: I love my Excursion Diesel

Sitting at the wheel I agree at first it felt like I was sitting offcenter, but you get used to it. I've always said, there are lotd of little things that could be done to improve the Excursion. Little silly things like that which leave me thinking someone threw together some engineering, it sold before finishing it and someone said "don't mess with it/spend any more money on it 'cause they'll buy it and we'll make a ton of cah on it". And that's coming from someone that loves his Ex.

What about the 2nd seat entry?? Whoa, who's dumb a$$ idea was that? 3rd row? Has anyone been able to keep kids from bumping the greasy rails with their feet climbing in and getting it on the carpet? I'll stop there.

Re: I love my Excursion Diesel

Everybody likes different things...

I'm weird,
I actually like the fat steering wheel and
there are MANY aftermarket wheels if you feel a need to change...
***********
Never have had a problem missing the accelerator pedal
it may be the tuner that makes it easier to find
**********
Now I do agree that the wheel is a slight bit to the left of where I think it should be....
I've noticed that in that I find the wear pattern on the leather more pronounced on the left seat edge,
course that could be from climbing in and out on that side too
***************
and mine has nice automatic climate controls...
course I always use the ones on the fat steering wheel,
not sure I'd want digital controls on the steering wheel -
could see me tapping my finger to a song and changing the fan speed,
changing the speed control, changing the radio station...
I could cause all kinds of havoc

and Hey, Familyride...
I investigated getting some sliders for under the second row buckets so they could be slid back if no one was in the third row,
but never did anything with it since I'm never back there

also cleaned off the grease on the sliders -
loosened the body bolts allowing some adjustments so they slide easier,
never flip&fold anymore, only lift the seat bottom so they walk "through" the seat to the back.
saved a lot of carpet stains !

We actually think the steering wheel is abit small but then again were used to International 4700 steering wheels

The only time the accelerator pedal is tough to feel is when I had heavy steel toe boots on otherwise not a problem with sandals or tennies.

We too had a desire for the automatic climate controls but after reading glitchy probs like turning off by itself or not even coming on at all made us shy away and you have to basically tear out the dash to get the new wire harness in not counting the cost for the parts.

Otherwise we love our Excursion

Re: I love my Excursion Diesel

I have climax control Never use it, It came on the Limited Ultimate. To fix the wheel just slam a curb real hard, it will move over for you You get used to it after a while. I have found this to be the best truck I have ever owned, all around it is great. I just need a sway bar now and I am done . 70,000 miles and not one issue, not one problem, just wear items. Stll have straight rotors, 1/2 life pads and no electrical gremlens. Who cares anyway, any problem can be solved here in minutes and for free. I do all the work myself.

Re: I love my Excursion Diesel

I've owned nothing but Chevys before this so the dash and wheel look real alien to me. I'm used to it now.

As for the pedal. I've never had a problem. I've got a big size 15 that never has any problems.
