I need an "Excursions for Dummies" book

I just bought my '02 4 days ago. I'm a new, first-time Excursion owner. And I haven't had a PSD since 1998 so I might as well be new to PSDs as well. I've read just about every post in this Excursion forum as far back as it would let me go and several posts in other forums about PSDs as well. I've been greatly educated about many things just through that research and through my friends. But now I'm at the point where I can't find certain answers to certain questions. So I apologize if these are noob questions that have been answered a million times, but I couldn't find the answers to them.

1. PATS keys - do ALL Excursions have them? If only some, how do I know what kind of key I have?
2. Where can I see pictures and install instructions on the Tymar filter set up?
3. Advice on good quality exhuast systems. I don't think I want to spring for stainless (or do I?), but I plan to have this truck until I die so what other options are there?
4. Anyone know/have pics of the jumper settings on an Edge EZ module? I need to figure out what mine is set on.
5. I've been told by the guys at Diesel Innovations that in a stock PSD, you can barely feel the transmission shift. Mine shifts very firm, hard even if I'm on the skinny pedal. Is it safe to guess I have already had the valve body mod done? Is there a way to know without dropping the pan?

Thats it for now. I'm already in love with my X and I know I'll be a regular here at DieselStop.com. Thanks!

All you need is this site, either search or ask, the search is not easy so just ask, we understand, we have all been thru this stage. No I am an expert, with almost 100k I have pretty much seen it all.

Re: I need an "Excursions for Dummies" book

Congrats on your X! I bought my 2000 X two years ago this April with about 80K miles on it. I now have almost 140K miles on it and still love it I did the "actual" Tymar performance intake kit from Dale Isley about a year and a half ago. It has performed pretty well, but the air sounds you will get from it will drive you crazy My air sounds have been greatly reduced with my ATS Housing and Wicked Wheel but there are still some there when my tranny shifts or at some other times. I love the whistle from my turbo but the air sounds are a little ghetto for me. I just bought a Ford AIS from thepowerstrokeshop.com after doing a bunch of research on this site. They were on sale shipped to my door (actually I'm picking mine up at the UPS store this evening) for around $200. So, I would recommend the AIS...but if you still want a Tymar a nice white powder coated kit might be for sale soon I also added the Walker BTM muffler to help flow and manage egt's with my mods. It has done the job for almost 2 years including towing my boat in the Ozark hills in very hot weather at a fraction of the cost of a full 4" system.
