installed additional coolant valve

I bought the AC valve from www.dieselsite.com and installed it yesterday. I installed it in the line from the rear heater core before it goes into the "T". It came with a "T" for the vacuum line too. The only thing I needed was about 6" of larger vacuum line to install onto the factory valve. The installation only required one cut on the truck.

Now, when I turn MAX AC on it closes the factory valve plus the new one which stops the crossflow between the front and rear heater cores.

I don't have a thermometer for precise readings, but the MAX AC is definitely colder.

My next step is to insulate the charge lines from the compressor to the evaporators.

You got on it pretty quick

You just need the digital thermo probe for the dash vent

Re: installed additional coolant valve

I know, I need to do that.

I don't know when I'm going to use all this massive cooling power though. It's only 73F outside today and isn't supposed to reach 90F until next week. I guess I should be thankful.

I am assuming you ment the suction line, (the cold ones)

We need all the cooling we can get on the "charge lines" from the condensor to the evaporator.

I don't think you will gain much but it may be worth a try you might try some of that foam pipe insultion from your home improvemnt store.

Some suction lines I have seen do have an extra layer of insulation on the hose portion not sure I have seen much on steel tubing but it would make more sense to insulate that and not the hose.

Let us know

Bruce and all,I've pretty much have outdone myself with the AC outside of installing a second compressor for the rear

Here's my latest Photo Album with the AC mod work completed.

I started on it all in early summer 2003 and just wrapped up the compressor work a month ago.

The results have been outstanding!

Re: installed additional coolant valve

I checked my chestnut 2001 psd x and I have this valve but
no vacuum connected to it. There is no lose vacuum line anywhere
around. Does anyone know where to connect this to? I know the
max position ac switch closes the damper door-where is this vacuum line. Is it the one just rearward of the condenser?

Re: installed additional coolant valve

I'll have to pop my hood and check exactly, but the vacuum line is grey with black plastic/rubber on the tip and comes from the blower box.

Re: installed additional coolant valve

I havn't checked for the valve, but I realized last night that my PSD EB 'X with climate control doesn't have a 'MAX AC' setting. It has the 'MAX AC' behaviour when set to 60F (which is what max ac did on my old navigator) ... but no MAX AC button.
