Not hard at all. I was able to tap into switched 12v from my gauge install, ground was the same way. Talking to Sail864, he mentioned to me to unscrew the OBD-II connector to get to the data lines easier. Went without a hitch. Looks cool too. Yes, please provide a detailed description of what wires were used, and where you tapped into them, etc.

I will be doing my install in the next few weeks. I remember seeing some old post which were very detailed in how to do what, where and with what. I would like to add a plug to the wiring so I can uplug the AIC just like the trucks. Anyone do this?
Thanks,
John

Why a plug? It's not like it's something you are going to take out. However, if you want you can talk to Gene Louder, apparently he knows somewhere to get the plug in CA. However, you are going to have to splice that plug into the wiring harness anyway.
A saddle splice allows you to splice wires onto existing wiring. Stick one wire in, and it fits over the existing wiring, it has a blade that you squeeze down with a pair of pliers, which cuts through the insulation and makes the connection. Available at any auto parts store or hardware store. Now, here's the nitty-gritty of the connection makeup. This is taken from a post by JBKrab:
The EXCURSION does not have the connector to plug the APCM into. The connector consists of four pins that are connected to the PCM (Powertrain Control Module).
What we need to do is the following:
1. Connect the Tan/Red wire of the APCM cable to 12V Key Power.
2. Connect the Black wire of the APCM cable to Ground.
The remaining two wires are a twisted pair. (WARNING: THEY MUST STAY TWISTED EXCEPT AT WHERE YOU MAKE THE SPLICE OR CONNECTION. THESE ARE DATA LINES AND REQUIRE TO BE TWISTED TOGETHER!)
3. Connect the BUS+ Red/Blue wire of the APCM cable to the TAN/ORANGE wire from the PCM Pin# 16.
4. Connect the BUS- white/violet wire of the APCM cable to the PINK/LIGHT BLUE wire from the PCM Pin# 15.
That's all there is to it. Real easy once you get the OBD-II connector off so you can get to the data lines. The full post is here, but everything you need to know is in the first post.
Michael - Thanks for the information. Depending on the weather on Sunday, the kids and of course the wife, I might be able to spend some time getting the AIC installed.
Thanks,
John

Just wanted to bounce this one to the top in case anyone was contemplating putting in a ford AIC. I followed the instructions listed two posts above and I am pleased to report that my AIC is now fully functionaly. Gotta love this site.

You can find the data wires easily if you remind yourself to look for a twisted pair. When I installed my AIC, I was unaware that the twisted pair was available at the ODB-II connector, so I went hunting for it in the huge wiring bundle under the dash. Stupid me kept checking individual wires for the right color code. As it turns out, there's only one (or maybe two - I was too excited to do any major verification) twisted pair in that entire bundle, so it's not so hard to find.
Glad to see that you are part of the few, the proud, the excursion owner with an AIC! They are cool. With the Walker BTM and the idle at 1200 rpm, you sure get a pretty cool turbo whistle. I love mine...keeps the A/C frosty on even the hottest days.

Yup, picked it up right after you posted that there were 70 available. (Hopefully he's giving you a commission!) What's a good idle speed to avoid wet stacking? I was leaning towards using the "Charge Protect" but didn't know if it was high enough. The other question I had was what voltage do people typically see in Charge Protect? I'm seeing 12.3-12.6. I guess I expected 14.7 or so from my gasser experience.
Regards,
Dave
