I just installed V Codes on the front & B Codes on the Rear of the Excursion. What a difference! Both front and rear of the X now absorb bumps in the road like it should have from the factory. These are the same Code springs my F250 has from the factory. Expansion joints don't buck the X at all.
I installed Rancho 9000x shocks a few weeks ago and the ride was much improved. Now with the springs it's awesome!
The rear is a better all around ride improvement than the front. The stock front bottomed on Big Bumps and would make me grit my teeth. The rear was just stiff, period.
The X now sits perfectly level, but I will now add Ride Rite Air Bags to keep it level while towing and loaded. The F250/350's have an overload spring which I didn't install, I think the bags will be nicer for all around flexibility.
The only thing I wish I would have done different, is doing the spring swap sooner. I would have negotiated the spring swap with the dealer at purchase & never tolerated the lumberwagon from the beginning. (I have been contemplating getting rid of X & buying an Escalade due to the ride quality, not anymore!)
With the added height, the X looks really good too!
I wonder how many more Excursions Ford would have sold if they would have sprung them properly off the assembly line? Man Am I happy!

Wow sounds like Us Bs And Bags for me also! I never liked the rear spring rate on the X it is way stiff 410# per inch same as U code fronts.
I am also looking to do a lot more to this X than the old one since I call it my 1/4 million mile truck unless they bring out a new one, but it will be a while at least.
Many call the rear springs on the X soft this is not true as you say they are stiffer than the Bs that come on SRW 350s Now the new ones have some new codes and a tri rate spring could make it interesting.
With a helwig or 30MM bar I do not think the slightly softer Bs are a problem.

I'll snap a pic on Monday when the X returns from Canada. My boss borrowed it for a 4 day "excursion" (funny?) pulling his LARGE boat. I got done swapping springs 2am wednesday morning and the boss loaded up at 7am heading for Canada. My poor wife didn't get to even drive it before I loaned it out. She vacuumed it out at 6am just it time for me to drop it off. (Yes, she IS speaking to me, Heh Heh...)

With V's & B's the X sits level. It don't take much weight to make the rear sag, thus my plan to add rear bags.
I think U's & B's would be ideal. Your V's & A's should be really close to my V's & B's, you may want to add bags too.
It took about 1 hour & 45 minutes per spring pack swap (I think the beer consumption slowed us own a little, heh, heh...).

How much height did you gain with the spring swap?? And would it be ok with stock size tires? Or would it look a little funny?
Thanks, Garry K

About 2 inches. It would look good with stock 265/75-16 tires. The X is now the same height as my F250 which has the exact same spring packs from the factory. I did just install 285/75-16 tires on the X because I like the look of the larger tire, but my F250 still has stock rubber.

So the V and the B came stock under the F250? or the F350? Sorry, I'm new to this...

Those fronts are fun to change arn't they I installed the front spring bolts backwards so i don't have to remove the bumper next time. I went with Vs and 1.5 add a leafs for 3" I also have the bags but never use them unless towing. I would change the 265s out, I had 285 pizza cutters and went with 315/70/16 on 8.5" wide rims. makes it look much better. Now for the sway bar. Make sure when you boss gets back that you retorque to U bolts. I would have put some miles on it and done this before a long heavy tow.

Yeah, the fronts are more difficult than the rears. I also installed the bolts backwards, but now that I done it I would probably still pull the bumper to get it outta the way. Bumper was way easier to remove than I thought it would be.
I installed Cooper ATR 285/75-16's earlier in the day before the spring swap. I wasn't sure how anything bigger would handle my 35' enclosed (6 sled) car hauler. It pulls really nice with 265's & the last time I installed 285's it was squirrelly. I'll find out when I go back to Muskegon, Mich to pack up some stuff that I need now that I'm in Minnesota. Funny, I'll be coming pretty much right past you MotionMan.
I didn't think of 285's as pizza cutters like the 265's but looking at your pics, I have to agree, 315's look really good!
I thought about retorqing all the bolts & mentioned it to the Boss that he could use my Superduty instead. He preffered to borrow the X because he wanted the extra seats for people once he got to Canada. I plan to put a wrench on all the Nuts & Bolts when he gets back.

I have U-codes on the front of my '05 X along with the Donohoe Racing 3" kit. The back end has the stock leaf springs but the blocks were changed from the stock 2" to 5" blocks from SDHQ to keep it level with the front. The shocks were also chaged to DR and I have Hellwigs front and rear. The truck sits perfectly level unloaded and the ride and handling are much better. I am considering changing the rear springs to F350 B-codes to further improve the ride (airlift bags will also be added for towing). My question is:
What effect will changing the rear springs from stock to F350 B-codes have on the ride height? (this will affect what size blocks I will need to change to to keep the truck level)
Do you know the part # for the B-codes or for stock F350 4" blocks?
Thanks,
Paul
[/ QUOTE ]
I will get the part numbers I ordered for B Codes.
As far as Height, the B Codes end up the same ride height (I didn't expect that). The B's are arched 2" higher than the stock springs they replaced, but the weight of the Excursion brings the ride height back down to where the stock springs sat. (My 02' rear X springs were sagging, so I measured an 05' X on a Dealer lot to campare ride height of New vs. New springs and found the rear springs were the same height.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Dennis

2C3Z*5310*HA is the part number for the B Code rear Springs. What I asked the dealer for was 2002 F350 Rear Spring Pack. And they should be Code B. He said yep.
When ordering you should do the same to avoid any typographical errors.
They asked me what I was doing with them & when I told them about installing them on the X, he said there was a notation on the computer that they won't fit Excursions.
He asked if I was sure if I wanted to order them, because I wouldn't be able to return them. I said they would be spares for my F250 because I have seen threads where people have had them break.
They fit, but Ford may be trying discourage the spring swaps which have been going on. Why else would the computer specifically say that they WON'T fit an Excursion?
My X is an '05 but I told my Ford parts guy I needed a B-code rear spring for an '04 SRW F350. The ones he sold me have the part number "3C3Z-5560-CB". He printed me off a list of F350 spring descriptions and part numbers from his computer which stated that these springs are for a "F350 SUPER DUTY...SRW, WIDE FRAME, LESS AUXILLARY SPRING LEAF...SPRING CODE B". I have not tried to install them yet. Do I have the right springs?
Thanks.
Paul
