installing 4x2 rear hatch struts

New member, what a great site. I have hit my head for the last time and ordered the 4x2 rear hatch struts. Are than any tricks to removing and installing the new struts? Is this a two person operation? Thanks for the help.

Re: installing 4x2 rear hatch struts

The door is very heavy. It helps to have someone hold the door while you remove the struts and replace. Do them one at a time. I assume you have noticed how to get the strut off. YOu have to pry the keeper off and then its easy to remove. Some have reported it really helps but on my X, due to the weight of and inside the Truck Vault, it hasn't helped out at all. I still bang the noggin every time. You would think I would remember but I don't.

It also helps to have a 2x4 or something comparable to prop it up with while you are working.
