Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

Hi all,
I found a set of 2004 tow mirrors with turn signals and heat.
They came with the adapters that go from one plug to two. Any
thing else I will need or any pointers from those who have done this.
My X has the paddle mirrors with turn signals.

Thanks
Mike

Re: Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

Here's the installation instructions for the lighted 2003 Tow Mirrors.

Those instructions are for the Superduty therefor the only minor differences will be wiring harness differences,I have not yet done the swap but maybe some of the guys in the slot here have.

Re: Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

Does anyone know if I will still need to tap into the fuse box &
splice wires since I already have turn signals in my existing
mirrors?

TIA
Mike

Re: Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

Have not done this but have been looking into it:
To my understanding you will will plug right up except that there is no lead in your or my connector for the running lights There is in 2004 and up as I understand.

Some have just tapped into the window power feed and keep them on all the time, sounds good to me as I keep my lights on all the time anyway.

A small amount of black tape over the sensor on the dash and it is all it takes for auto on day time lights

Re: Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

Thanks guys,
I was able to install them Friday night. The power functions
work, but the turn signals do not. I think it may be the adapters.
On my old mirrors there were two connections, one black plug with
two wires and one white plug with four wires. I noticed on the adapters that the white plug had only three pins inside instead of the four. Could I just splice around the adapter and get it to work?
Any other ideas?

TIA

Mike

Re: Installing Tow Mirrors, Have Questions

That is odd....because I have a 2002 limited which had the small (Why a non tow mirror is ever installed with a diesel beats me) heated turnsigal mirrors on it and I just went to ford and ordered the tow mirrors for it. The turnsignal style shows as an option for the 2002 when ordering them now and they plugged right in with no issues....The only thing I don't have is the little side marker light that lights up like the '04s.
So basically I have done the upgrade but have not run into the issues that you seem to be having.
