Instruments went up, then died, the came back to life

I have an 04 Excursion w/03 6.0L pulling 10000 travel trailer. While pulling my travel trailer last week, straight level road, constant speed, my instruments went to the high side, speed 100, RPM maxed out, fuel gauge full, temp gages high side, everything went to high side, motor (6.0L) just running normally, all warning lights went on, then everything on instrument panel died, everything looked just like I had turned off the motor. Radio still worked, my engine running normally, then everything came back on normally. Only happened that one time, lasting maybe 5-6 seconds for all to occur. Anybody have an experience like that before? I pulled my trailer over the same road in the opposite direction a few days later, everything worked fine for entire trip. Thanks for the help. I really don't know where to look on this one.

You must have run through a class II paranormal poltergeist. Was there slime on the outside of your truck afterward? If so call ghost busters before traveling on that side of the highway next time.

Good luck with the gremlin and I will watch out for similar behavior.

Re: Instruments went up, then died, the came back to life

I think every thing you are talking about is on the "Bus"

A twisted pair or three wires that run around the vehicle instead of discreet wires

Sounds like this "Communication System" went down for a moment

Think of it as a robust Ethernet but handling smaller simple packets of info

We have been using this in industry for many years in many ways it is more reliable than a bunch of single discrete purpose wires.

I don’t have a problem with ford going to this type of system it is cost effective and fairly reliable, understanding that any system can fail.

Like Ethernet or any system like this it can have a problem from interference.

I would wait and see if it repeats, it may never do it again

Re: Instruments went up, then died, the came back to life

Thanks Bruce1954,
I understand your explaination as I work in the computer industry. It is a reliable system, maybe as Dunbar said, there was a poltergeist on that side of the road. At any rate, it hasn't happened since then, but it will sure get your attention when it does. Thanks again.
